the joy of matching with your best friend.

nothing screams greece summer trip quite like a beaded tank top. so when it was clear my bestie and i were going to greece, i decided to take matters into my own hands.
i went to my fav bead store to choose colors that i thought matched the greek summer color palette and let my bestie decide which design she wanted.
@juliexxlr decided on a jellyfish and i went for a dolphin (sorta like the one in mamma mia, iykyk)!
somehow both designs ended up perfectly matching the person they were meant for.
and we had a blast in greece!
looking cute & sparkly!

my first summer of sewing my own clothes.

i have A LOT to learn when it comes to sewing. but i am proud of myself for trying. trying to get better at it. trying to get better at not noticing every little mistake, every uneven seam. trying to get better at not caring when other people see them.
it’s kinda like life in that sense. it does that, doesn’t it? life is funny that way.
anyway, for now trying is enough. because i know only trying will make me a better seamstress…and a better human.
at least i know my omi would be proud of me for trying although she would point out the uneven seams. that’s ok, from one perfectionist to another - i would let her.

side note: i need us, as a society, to add more beaded fringe to stuff. it’s fun & sparkly!

the joy of a meaningful gift.

successfully learned how to bind a book on my birthday and spent my birthday weekend making @storiesformysophie ’s birthday gift! (july best birthday month i dont make the rules)
with a little help from @christinesherrill to make it extra special.

….a gift to remember to capture every minute, no matter how big or how small the moment may seem because it‘s a reminder how hard you fought to get here! and oh what a blessing that is! 🩵

yellow leather & teal string because i will always include someone‘s favorite color. and the charms just made sense.

to the bright future!

🌸 CRAFT RECAP: six months of krheating 🌸

first half of the year is over, so i thought i‘d do a little craft recap to remember all the joy this year has already brought me.

🫶🏻 the ‘donna pouch’ as i like to refer to it. sparkly & wonderful. one of my favorite crafts (potentially ever) !! still mad at the silk organza i used for making a perfectionist‘s life so much harder.

🫶🏻 my sketchbook. every once in a while i think to myself i should probably take up cross stitching but then i do it and i remember it‘s not for the weak.

🫶🏻 the ‘sherrill shays merch‘. silly crafts are my favorite !! although this craft reminded me why i hate embroidering hats…lots of bandaids later, it was all worth it.

🫶🏻 the ‘midwest girl’ sweater. when i tell u this is the coolest thing i have ever made. i LOVE this style of embroidery, especially on a sweater. will definitely add this technique to my permanent repertoire.

🫶🏻 more doggies. i just LOVE this craft. special place in my heart. beading, while it always throws out my back & is tedious beyond words, is so rewarding & the end result is ALWAYS worth it. but especially in this case.

🫶🏻 my photo wall. it has really been a goal of mine this year to make my room more homey & besides my framed photobooth photos, this embroidered photo project is my favorite. all pictures of my mom/grandma, with fun little embroidery on it to spice them up. sentimental & cute - my favorite.

🫶🏻 word2yourmamma shirts. i just love a design with hidden meanings, sue me. and i just love a story with invisible strings.

🫶🏻 protect the dolls shirt. for the annual pride parade. but also for every other day because we show up all year round!

🫶🏻 mami’s notebook. a long time coming. simple yet meaningful.

take a shot every time i say ‘my favorite’ lol. i just really love pouring my heart into crafting & sharing it. i am a museum of all the things & all the people i have ever loved & i hope it translates through everything that i make.
thank you for all the joy so far.
can’t wait for the next 6 months.
facing them with an open heart, knowing there is so much joy & love out there.💗

the joy of being a daughter.

my mom has watched me make countless of these journals over the course of last year & always wanted her own.
originally, i planned for this to be a mother’s day gift…luckily, every day is mother’s day in this house!
when i asked her whether she wanted her embroidered initial on the front of it, she was very clear it wasnt her aesthetic lol.
but not stitching anything on there felt boring to me, so i went through my mom’s loveletter box. when i was a kid (essentially ever since i could write) i would leave little love notes all around the house for my mom to find & she collected them all. she keeps them in a little box in our living room.

“für Mami”. because everything is for her, always.
i am the luckiest girl in the world because i get to be my mom’s daughter! 🩵

next up: sewing summer !!!!

I reached out to Rhea without a vision, just a lot of invisible string moments that my sweet girl & her auntie Christine share, knowing she could cRHEAte the exact (word to your) mamma's day gift for Christine (& kind of for myself) that would represent it all & boy, did she understand the assignment 😭

there is SO MUCH more to the journey of these pieces that are so funny & heartfelt that we cant wait to share, including Rhea's beautiful word to your mamma letter! the joy of trusting the process.

i’m getting better at this btw. but i do still have around 5-8 mental breakdowns for each craft & 99.9% of the time it turns out fine!
trust during this dog portraits craft i had about 11-15 mental breakdowns cause i was convinced it wouldn’t turn out the way i wanted it to (+ we all know perfectionism is a burden i carry).
but that’s why you need friends like @danielleajello who talk you off the ledge. + will comment about how much they love the progress, point out their fav details & hype you up.
so, thank you dani (& all the other people in my life who had to hear about this craft, i apologize) 🩶

anyway, what a great craft where you get to stare at cute pups all day!!

the joy of the international postal system.

awww man! i love pouring my heart into gifts for people i care about. i love that gifts can travel across the ocean. i love that the joy of a good giftbox can transcend any distance and any borders.
i love how silly life can get sometimes. i can’t stop saying it but truly thank god for mamma mia. thank god for people like christine. and thank god that i am lucky enough to know someone like christine.
i love how humans connect over random little things. thank god for human connection & community.
i hope everyone is lucky enough to know someone like christine in their life. she makes life more joyful. & lord knows we all need more joy in this world.
…and thank god for all the dedicated postal workers around the world ensuring we can share gifts with each other despite oceans separating us.
(i’m a cancer y’all & it’s spring so i’m feeling extra sappy & grateful!)
