Always wanted to start making visual art, but don't where to begin? Lots of people feel the pull to be more creative, but often encounter roadblocks, such as thinking they don't have the time for classes, the space to create, etc. I've been mulling over this idea of helping others begin a joyous, life-long pursuit of art-making; so now I’m opening a new part of my practice:
Private, one-on-one creative guidance that include an introduction to materials based on what you're personally drawn to; advice about setting up a space create that's always accessible and encourages daily practice; recommendations for online tutorials/resources that have been incredibly inspiring to me; and, an intro to loose, expressive sketching with my favorite materials.

These sessions aren’t about talent or performance. They’re about slowing down, working with beautiful, expressive materials, and giving creativity room to unfold in a calm, supportive space.

No pressure. No grades. No “right way.”
Just honest exploration and thoughtful guidance.

In-person, online, and hybrid sessions available.
Message me if you’re curious and want to talk about whether it’s a good fit. #creativeguide #artguide #art #visualart #artworkshop #artworkshopsforadults #beginnings #artclasses #creativity #creativelifehappylife taken in Staunton, Virginia by @kriscrossart

Wandering through Testaccio this morning and finding all sorts of visual treasures. I really like this neighborhood...not so many tourists and lots of shade. We can see the Tiber, too, from the apartment which is a nice bonus. The green parakeets really keep the treetops lively, even in this crazy heatwave. #Rome #Roma #Testaccio #StreetArt #StreetPhotography taken in Testaccio by @kriscrossart

When I forget how to paint, I'll learn all I can about photography. I love old buildings with interesting textures, colors, details. This one is in Waynesboro, Virginia. Might sketch later in ink.... #urbanphotography #cityvibes #alleyway #urbanexploration #streetphotography #architecturelovers #cityscape #moodygrams #cinematictones #darkaesthetic #rainydayvibes #moodycaptures #quietmoments #lonelyplaces #grittycity #urbantextures #brickwall #industrialstyle #citydetails #wires #powerlines #backstreet #hiddenplaces #exploretocreate #visualsoflife #createcommune #ourmoodydays #ig_mood #streetmood #urbanscene by @kriscrossart

Working on this large oil painting in my new space for the next month or so. Feeling very inspired...although I spent a week and half trying to figure out how to paint again. Oil painting is intimidating for me. One of the biggest challenges is having the patience to set up a large enough pallet and still have room to mix. My ADD brain just can't seem to do that, so I started making the mixtures in plastic bowls. I don't why I can't paint on smaller canvasses and use a regular ol' palette. I guess I need the freedom to make big marks. Same with drawing. I hardly ever use a small sketchbook...much prefer 18x24 paper. This morning I was a bit disappointed because it dried much darker and duller, just like acrylics. I hear that varnish will bring out the colors again, but I think I'm going to have to go back in and add some brighter line work. I want them to glow as if they emerged dancing from a fire. Underneath was a bad horse painting that I'd fought with in both acrylics and oils. Maybe I'll title it "We Used to Be a Bad Horse." #wip #figurativepainting #oilpainting #badhorse #painting #art taken in Waynesboro, Virginia by @kriscrossart
