Hike over to Booker Creek Trail and discover new art!

Kristen Solecki (@kristensolecki)’s new art shelter, “Hiking Home,” is on East Franklin Street at Eastgate Crossing.

It features a raccoon departing the city to hike back to their home in the woods.

“We have so many great trails and wooded areas in Chapel Hill to see and explore and I love that some are integrated within downtown Chapel Hill,” Kristen says. “I wanted this to be a fun, interactive piece to inspire the community to spend time in nature and also bring a sense of fun and whimsy to their daily commute.”

This is one of five new pieces in our latest round of bus shelter artwork, part of our Art + Transit collab with @chtransit. by @kristensolecki

It’s time to officially share what we’ve been up to with The Food Section! Introducing our very first North Carolina Paper Route map: an exit-by-exit eating guide to Interstate 40 across North Carolina.

Road trips are about both the journey and destination, so we created a guide to finding good food along the way, and called it “I-40 Exit Strategy”.

A few years ago, @readtfs tackled this issue on a stretch of I-95 (earning a James Beard Award for that coverage). This time, they chose the NC portion of I-40 and partnered with us to create a guide that lives in both digital and physical form. 🗺️

Organized by exit number and illustrated by @kristensolecki, the map includes 25 locations, each selected for road trip compatibility: suitable for takeout, fast service, and extended hours — alongside their expression of local culinary tradition.

The map is launching on June 10 with an event at @rosebudraleigh in Raleigh, so if you’re in that area (or are now in the mood for a road trip), please join us! Details are on the events page of my site and you can preorder your map while you’re on the site! by @kristensolecki
