The sweetest little life on the road 🤭

I’ve been feeling so blessed recently to have the ability to make sourdough in my van. Although it’s so easy to just buy, it’s one of my favorite ways to slow down my days and do something that feels both creative and productive.

I have the @campchef stove that runs off a propane canister and I use it everyday. It has two burners and an oven!

If you know me, you know I cook 95% of my meals in the van and bake sourdough and pastries all the time. This isn’t sponsored I just get asked about this a lot.

You can watch the trauma in my eyes when it comes to “the knock.” 😅

Overall a peaceful night. Warm cozy vibes especially after I got my heater going.

I do have a toilet in the van! But with this porta potty being nearby I was very grateful this particular night 😅

I think my first strong memory of begging people to do something with me was to go skydiving. I couldn’t find anyone to go with me, so I went alone. And I kept going alone. I got my license and moved to a drop zone alone. 🪂

But throughout my life, especially since I turned 18, I’ve been traveling alone. Day trips to the mountains, beach, forests turned into overnight trips just so I could spend more time traveling. 😌
Sometimes I would have a friend come, but whether they came or not, I was still going.

Foreshadowing for my vanlife journey 🤭
I’m living the life I’ve dreamt of and built for myself when nobody could join even though I asked.

And that’s ok cause I get to have this crazy adventure and explore the world and learn new skills in my own time and that’s a beautiful thing.✨

Seems kinda unnecessary to drive 59 hours and spend 4 times more in gas just to fly out of NC rather than Cali.

I promise I’m only a little insane but here are my thoughts:

• Having someone reliable watch Swoop and Riley for an extended period of time makes more sense closing to my family.

• Why not fly back with the cats then? There are no direct flights from Reno to Raleigh and airlines charge $150 per cat, per flight. So it’d cost me $1,200 to fly there and back. And I don’t even wanna talk about the stress and logistics it takes to fly with two cats.

• I’ve been feeling the stress it takes to have a space to upkeep the van. I need to sand the door and reseal it, wash the van, probably do some repairs and having a designated space and power source is hard to ask of new friends. Easier to do back in NC.

• Parking the Van on the west coast for an extended period of time will also cost a fair bit of money.

• I’m about to be a second aunt (🤩🥰🥹😭) and want to be around for that as well as the holiday season when I get back from Europe.

Hence the 59 drive back to NC.

Now onto the next adventure!

Lil look into what I got into over my 9 hour layover in Iceland along with some tips for anyone wanting to visit Reykjavik in the future.

So worth it every time ✨

Feel like I lucked out so hard with the perfect sunny weather so that definitely contributed to deciding to take the layover side quest 🤭

I did over hear some people on the bus surprised they had another bus to get to their hotel after arriving at the bus station in Reykjavik.

Iceland is huge (about the size of Virginia lol) and takes even longer to get around so I didn’t get to see any cool waterfalls or glaciers, in the 3.5 hours I had to explore.

But I’ll definitely be back one day to explore the rest of the country.

Wasn’t I just doing this exact thing earlier??😅

Drove from Tahoe to NC this past week (with a stop in the Tetons for a day) and I’m reminded how slow Big Bertha goes.

I did in fact NOT get my previously calculated 10 miles per gallon. Instead I got around 8.5 and sobbed internally. 🥲

I did the 44 hour drive in 59 hours including gas breaks, but not including longer stops.
The fastest she seemed to allow was 55-60 mph on the highway so the hours dragged on.

Overall a really cool experience to see how the geography shifts to fully inhabit the iconic characteristics each state has. taken in USA by @kristinalaneadventures

Made the last minute decision to blow up my paddle board and check something off my Tahoe summer bucket list.

📍Float the Truckee River ✅

If you’re visiting Tahoe, floating the Truckee River is a must!
It’s such an easy experience. I was told what the drop in and take out spots were and went for it.

The drop in spot is right behind the Tahoe City Transit Center and the take out spot is right before Alpine Meadows by the “Caution Rapids Ahead” sign.

✨SAVE this post for your next river float in the area! ✨

*Caution* as the summer goes on, the river might be more shallow. It’s monitored by a controlled dam but be careful of rocks and shallow places if you have a raft with fins.

I took off my large fin for this and still had to rake some weight off my board for part of it.

Overall it was the perfect day to see a part of Tahoe that isn’t all about the lake.

Highly recommend.

A bit of Riley lore and vanlife throwbacks.

If you’re wondering if you should bring your cat on your adventures, this is your sign.

A couple days late since her birthday was Aug 4th, but she deserved an origin story post.

Riley is seriously the best combination of a snuggly cuddle bug and independent adventure cat.

Bought this tent off Facebook marketplace to use for the Tahoe Rim Trail and this is how it went…

I decided to hike the Tahoe Rim Trail having only ever slept in a tent 2 times. This is my third night in a tent and figured it’s best to work out the kinks in the sleep system before committing to 10 days on trail 🤭😅

Things I learned:
1. Down sleeping bags insulate better when you have fewer clothes on. So the more layers I kept putting on, the colder I was getting.

2. I kept rolling off my inflatable sleeping pad. Thinking of deflating it a tad next time.

3. Always pack a second pair of socks

4. I was right to pack earplugs. I use the wax earplugs cause I hate the feeling of the foam ones popping out of my ears randomly.

5. 20 year old tents still work and you don’t have to have the fanciest tent on the market to go camping.

So many days on this trail I broke some sort of personal record for myself and pushed my limits, but honestly am so glad I said yes to this.

I love surprising myself by doing hard things.

Did 135 out of 171 miles on the TRT.
Now I just need to go finish those missing three days 🤭

Life changing hikes are my favorite. The TRT held so many beautiful and crazy moments within 10 days.

Grateful I was part of such an amazing group that held so much encouragement for each other. So cool to be able to push your limits in a safe place.
Also a great experience personally knowing I was able to see my own limits and make the right call for my body when the time came.
More on that later.

I’ll be sharing more on the hike and experience later as I have so much content I wanna show you guys.
