A bird’s-eye view of the sprint start.

The black arrows show angular momentum vectors, which reflect the accumulated effects of external torques—including those generated by ground reaction forces—and differ noticeably between the slower and faster athlete.

These differences may offer clues about how each athlete controls body rotation as they rise out of the start.

What catches your eye?

@kristof.kipp shares what makes Weightlifting unique for power development.

Yes, he explains why the use of the term power isn't scientifically accurate and talks impulse-momentum but but you get the point.

Heavier loads moved relatively fast gives a unique stimulus.

Weightlifting RATIOS✨

How strong should your clean be compared with your back squat?

What should you snatch relative to your clean and jerk? You may already know your lifting ratios but do you know whether they are appropriate for you?

And when a ratio falls outside the expected range, does it reveal a genuine weakness or is it simply normal individual variation?

This webinar provides a complete, research-based review of weightlifting ratios and shows you how to use them intelligently in training and coaching.

High-performance MINDSET for lifters✨

Every weightlifter wants to improve.

But training harder doesn’t always produce better results, especially when your time and energy are being spent on the wrong things.

The challenge isn’t finding something you could improve. It’s identifying what will make the biggest difference to your performance right now.

This interactive, two-hour online workshop will help you identify the factors currently limiting your progress, decide what deserves your attention, and build a practical priority plan for the next phase of your development.

Instead of trying to fix every weakness at once, you’ll leave knowing:
-What matters most right now to you specifically
-What can wait
-Where to invest your limited time and energy
-
How to turn your priorities into everyday decisions and actions

Hammer Axis does not EQUAL Body Axis!

When looking elite hammer throwers it’s attractive to think of the thrower and implement as a synchronized system where both "components" rotate around a single axis - but the data show that they each actually have their own unique axis and vary dynamically throughout each turn.

By plotting the angular momentum unit vectors, we can see the dynamics:
- The Hammer Axis (Cyan): Stays remarkably stable. Due to its large kinetic energy (cyan vector at the hammer) and radius (dotted cyan line from System COM to hammer), the hammer acts like a rigid gyroscope, resisting sudden changes to its orbital plane.
- The Body Axis (Magenta): Oscillates and precesses dynamically. The thrower is constantly shifting their own axis of rotation, changing body lean and hip positioning to actively pull against the implement and accelerate it through the turns.

The Biomechanical Takeaway: Elite hammer throwing is an asynchronous, multi-body problem characterized not by strict co-axial alignment, but by strategies to manage optimal and time-critical alignment. The thrower dynamically modulates their body’s angular momentum vector relative to the high-inertia gyroscopic plane of the implement. This controlled phase offset maximizes the mechanical lever arm required to exert an accelerating torque during double support, while allowing throwers to maintain dynamic postural equilibrium against massive centripetal force during single support.
