@kristof.kipp shares what makes Weightlifting unique for power development. Yes, he explains why the use of the term power isn't scientifically accurate and talks impulse-momentum but but you get the point. Heavier loads moved relatively fast gives a unique stimulus. Highly recommend listening to thus episode on the Sweet Science of Fighting podcast

🏋️‍♀️What’s coming on Evidence Strong in September🏋️‍♀️ 🔥Evidence Strong Show – interviews with experts🔥 -Dr Kristof Kipp @kristof.kipp – discussing the use of biomechanical testing in elite weightlifting -Dr Aidan Hopper @hoppa.22 – talking about heat therapy after resistance training and its influence on hypertrophy and strength gains -Dr Maryam Marashi @maryamymarashi – discussing resistance training and body image -Dr Mohamed Romdhani – sharing his research on elite athletes’ mental health, quality of life and sleeping habits 🔥LIVE events🔥 Weightlifting RATIOS✨ How strong should your clean be compared with your back squat? What should you snatch relative to your clean and jerk? You may already know your lifting ratios but do you know whether they are appropriate for you? And when a ratio falls outside the expected range, does it reveal a genuine weakness or is it simply normal individual variation? This webinar provides a complete, research-based review of weightlifting ratios and shows you how to use them intelligently in training and coaching. Link in bio High-performance MINDSET for lifters✨ Every weightlifter wants to improve. But training harder doesn’t always produce better results, especially when your time and energy are being spent on the wrong things. The challenge isn’t finding something you could improve. It’s identifying what will make the biggest difference to your performance right now. This interactive, two-hour online workshop will help you identify the factors currently limiting your progress, decide what deserves your attention, and build a practical priority plan for the next phase of your development. Instead of trying to fix every weakness at once, you’ll leave knowing: -What matters most right now to you specifically -What can wait -Where to invest your limited time and energy - How to turn your priorities into everyday decisions and actions Link in bio #Olympicweightlifting #olylifting #snatch #weightliftingcoach #cleanandjerk

A snippet of my work that I presented here at @isbsofficial that’s actually a small preview of dissertation work. Conference proceedings aren’t yet published, but I’ll share that once they are. Link to my full slide deck are in my linktr.ee I’ll post these for now and make these slides ✨aesthetic✨ later. There are some limitations in previous literature, including just looking at velocity, trajectory, small sample population, single gender, lack of weight class variability. There’s a lot more information that we can actually pull from barbell velocity profiling that we’re not utilizing, like the timing information. This was just an analysis on the weight categories from the Paris Olympic categories. M: n=58; 61, 73, 89, 102, 102+ F: n=55; 49, 59, 71, 81, 81+ Snatch velocity profile discrete variable definitions Differences were only found for maximum barbell height, and barbell height at maximum velocity. There’s a clear difference in these spatial variables between our light categories versus heavier categories. These are the raw velocity profile curves, averaged for each weight class. You can see that if we eyeball where the different phases are, there’s no differences across categories. This obviously makes sense. Taller weightlifters, likely heavier, will pull the bar higher and higher in order to give themselves room to get under the bar. No differences in any of the timing across phases means that we can now use these as references to compare and contrast ourselves are our athletes to higher performing lifters, regardless of their weight class. These results were actually different from what we expected, but considering the previous literature, I guess it makes sense. Our pool of talent in the US is quite competitive, especially our 71, 81, 81+ female, so it’s plausible that the bar travels at a certain speed given a certain load.
