Honestly… I’m still emotionally processing it all.
Not just yesterday, but the past 3 months of my life.

As someone who has spoken on stages for years, this one was different. It challenged me in ways I didn’t see coming, humbled me, and reminded me that growth often lives on the other side of discomfort.

What I didn’t expect when I said yes to this, was that my fellow speakers would become FAMILY.

To call us a “TEDx speaker group” would minimize the amount of work, push, partnership, and LOVE we’ve shared TOGETHER.

You all pushed me through discomfort, tears, fear, uncomfortable moments of self doubt…for YOU ALL I am forever grateful ❤️

To the incredible @tedx_thirdward TEAM and to our fearless leader @durrellkdouglas who had a vision and turned that vision into a MASTERPIECE 🙏🏽
You have made this experience one of the most memorable experiences of my life. From the initial selection process, to the amazing speaker bootcamp (one of my favorite parts when you told me the Disney story wasn’t it 😂 ) to the time I stepped on that red dot 🔴 Your love for your community and your attention to detail has made this experience as a speaker one that can not be topped!

To my community, THANK YOU for every message, repost, prayer, attendance and for showing up so beautifully. My heart holds a special place for each of you ❤️

My family, who traveled from Virginia to witness this milestone moment, THANK YOU for reminding me who I am when the nerves tried to convince me otherwise.

My mom @monjohn08 who went from styling my hair for preschool graduation to styling my hair for the TEDx stage. You are the reason I am the woman I am today and the reason I hold the confidence I have to not only walk the lane I walk but to stand on this platform and encourage other women to walk in their own lanes. When they see and hear me, they hear and see YOU. ❤️

People will see a talk.

But what I’ll remember are the hugs backstage, the tears afterward, the “you did it!”, and the beautiful people God placed beside me along the way.

At the beginning of this year, I made a promise to myself:

Do more hard things.

So I applied to TEDx.

What I didn’t expect was making it through 700+ applicants and actually being invited to take the stage.

The application process alone forced me to do something I’ve always hated: recording myself talking.
My 3-minute application video took 12 hours to film and another 2 days before I worked up the courage to hit submit. 😂

What started as one idea eventually evolved into something much bigger.

A story I’ve never shared publicly before.

Last year, a producer from HBO approached me about sharing this story on film in a documentary series.
At first, I was honored. But after reading the contract, I realized something…
I wasn’t afraid of telling the story.
I was afraid of someone else telling it for me.

This chapter of my life was too personal, too emotional, and too important to hand over to a producer’s version of events.

So I said no.

What I didn’t know then was that one day I’d be standing on a TEDx stage, sharing this the way I felt called to share

And doing it in a room full of people who understand the world I come from.

An organization led by people who have embraced me exactly as I am.

And somewhere along the way, I unexpectedly found family in my fellow TEDx speakers. What began as a group of strangers became a community of people who challenged me, encouraged me, celebrated me, and reminded me that our stories matter.

It’s funny how you apply for something because of the stage, but sometimes the greatest gift ends up being the people standing beside you on it. ❤️

This Sunday, on the @tedx_thirdward stage in Houston TX, I’ll be sharing a part of myself I’ve never shared publicly before.

And if you’ve ever wondered why I believe so deeply in women choosing themselves, creating their own timelines, and building lives they love…you’ll want to be in the room.
