EXCLUSIVE: New video shows the moments before officers fired their weapons on fleeing fugitive after allegedly causing a semi to crash Wednesday afternoon.

The incident began around 1:45 p.m. when Pleasant Grove police requested assistance following the fugitive into Tooele County according to Sgt. Dane Lerdahl with the Tooele County Sheriff's Office.

While following the fugitive, officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield and a short pursuit began. During the pursuit, the fugitive’s car sideswiped a semi truck causing both vehicles to crash

"Moments later, shots were fired by multiple officers from multiple agencies," Lerdahl said. The fugitive was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lerdahl did not say whether the man was armed, what he was wanted for, or what exactly caused officers to fire their weapons. He did not release the name of the man who died, pending notification of family.

Kevin O'Leary and the Box Elder County data center project were the focus of a parody on NBC's Saturday Night Live this weekend. James Austin Johnson, best known for his imitations of President Donald Trump, portrayed O'Leary as a guest on the "Weekend Update" segment of the national comedy show.

"All I want is to buy up 40,000 acres of God's untouched splendor and replace it with a very loud computer that steals your job. Is it going to take up precious water? Absolutely. Is it going to provide a necessary service? Who's to say?" Johnson says. "But on the flip side, it's going to make me a tremendous amount of money, and I think that's great."

Pothole AI is an app developed by 17-year-old West High School student Ivan Turan. The app can detect and record potholes in real time while the cellphone rests on a dashboard holder, and the app continues to work with live detection. When the app detects a pothole, it logs the location and takes a snapshot of the road damage.

The iOS application is available to the public through Apple and was recently recognized at the 2026 National STEM Festival, where Ivan was among 10 Utah finalists. He also presented his app to the Utah Department of Transportation technology and infrastructure teams on Sept. 24, which is now testing Pothole AI.

"I think it's just a wonderful opportunity for me, for people outside and for other kids who aspire to use technology or the skills that they learn, not just from school but outside of school to create these types of solutions to big, real-world problems," Turan said.

Saturday Night Live put the focus on Canadian businessman Kevin O'Leary and his pursuit of the Stratos data center project in Box Elder County in a Weekend Update segment over the weekend.

SNL comedian James Austin Johnson, in the first photo, portrayed O'Leary in the parody as self-centered and focused on only making money. "All I want is to buy up 40,000 acres of God's untouched splendor and replace it with a very loud computer that steals your job," he says in an "interview" with Weekend Update host Colin Jost.

The actual O'Leary, in the second photo, and other project boosters have characterized the controversial project as key to national security. O'Leary has said he's listened to the concerns of project critics and will abide by Utah regulations in pursuing the project.

Whatever the case, the project has prompted plenty of controversy, debate and uproar in Utah and beyond, like other data center proposals.

About 70 runners and volunteers were stranded, some overnight, due to floodwaters in Moab during the ultramarathon Moab 240. The event is a 241.8-mile ultramarathon that takes runners through areas surrounded by Canyonlands and Arches National Park.

"The weather has become too dangerous to safely continue — we've received reports of aid station structures blowing away, trees falling down, wind, rain, freezing temps — and we're expecting conditions to get worse tonight," the organization said.

For Dottie Beaver, turning 99 was best celebrated the same way she has spent much of her life: sitting at a piano and playing for others.

As her fingers moved across the keys, residents at Spring Gardens Senior Living in Lindon gathered to listen, proving that Beaver's music still has the power to bring people together, just as it has for decades.

The Aug. 25 arrest in Ogden of a Venezuelan immigrant by an ICE agent sparked a lot of debate.

Now the Venezuelan man, placed in an immigrant detention facility after the encounter, has been released.

The ICE agent was pursuing the immigrant on an Ogden street last August when an Ogden police officer who happened to be on the scene got caught in the middle. Both the ICE agent and the man, in his car making a food delivery, asked the officer for assistance, putting him in the awkward position of acting as their go-between.

Moreover, Ogden City Councilman Kevin Lundell lives near the site and started filming the encounter, though the photos in this post come from the Ogden officer's body camera footage. He kept his distance, not wanting to interfere. But the issue sparked plenty of debate at a subsequent Ogden City Council meeting about the role Ogden officers should have, if any, in working with federal immigration agents.

Some critics viewed the officer as assisting the ICE agent while others defended him, saying he did the best he could in a difficult situation.

Meantime, the man remained in an immigrant detention facility until Thursday, the day after a federal judge in California ordered his release.
