💚 One City. One Day. Countless acts of kindness.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who rolled up their sleeves for One City Day! Because of your time, energy, and heart, our community is a little brighter today.
Special shoutout to the incredible volunteers who helped clean and refresh The Richmond district today. From the volunteers who pulled weeds at The Neighborhood Center’s garden to those who picked up trash along Balboa street - your hard work is helping create a welcoming community where our neighbors can learn, grow, and connect. 🌱

We’re also grateful for the leaders who joined us and continue to champion strong, healthy communities:
✨ Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi @speakerpelosi
✨ Supervisor Connie Chan (District 1) @connie_chan_sf
✨ Kunal Modi, Chief of Health and Human Services for the City and County of San Francisco @kunalmodi
When neighbors, volunteers, community organizations, and civic leaders come together, amazing things happen. Thank you for showing what community looks like in action.

Today, Mayor Daniel Lurie visited Hope House following San Francisco’s preliminary 2026 Point-in-Time Count results, which show street homelessness has reached its lowest recorded level since 2011.

The data is preliminary, but the message is clear: more people are coming indoors and getting connected to shelter, treatment, and long-term support. During today’s press conference, Mayor Lurie recognized the frontline teams helping make that progress possible, including outreach workers, shelter staff, paramedics, ambassadors, and law enforcement partners.

As San Francisco’s first abstinence-based shelter, Hope House offers more than a bed for the night. Through The Way Out’s Recovery System of Care, people are connected to shelter, treatment, recovery housing, and long-term support that helps rebuild lives.

There’s still more work to do, but today’s progress shows recovery-focused solutions are changing lives! taken in San Francisco, California by @kunalmodi

Addressing homelessness and addiction in San Francisco requires coordinated systems of care, strong partnerships, and a commitment to long term recovery.

Recently, Mayor Daniel Lurie, along with Supervisor Matt Dorsey and Chief of Health and Human Services Kunal Modi visited Hope House to engage directly with participants and tour programs in action. The visit included a shared meal prepared by Culinary Training Academy students and meaningful conversations with individuals on their recovery journey.

Hope House is part of Mayor Lurie’s Breaking the Cycle initiative, which prioritizes comprehensive, recovery-oriented solutions to homelessness and substance use.

The Salvation Army is proud to advance this work through The Way Out, a recovery focused homeless initiative that provides a full continuum of care including drug free shelter, detox, treatment, recovery housing, life skills, mentorship, and workforce development.

Through this system of care, individuals are not just stabilized, they are given a real pathway to long term recovery and independence. taken in San Francisco, California by @kunalmodi

Join your Westside neighbors for a discussion on abstinence-focused recovery housing and integration of affordable housing developments in the Sunset and Richmond communities.

With multiple existing and proposed state-supported housing in development on the Westside, proposed legislation would have a direct impact on our communities. Supervisor Dorsey and Deputy Mayor Modi will educate our neighbors on abstinence-focused recovery housing and participate in a friendly Q&A.

Our homeless response system is too fragmented and bureaucratic. It means we spend a lot, but still don’t drive the outcomes people deserve. We will focus on more efficiency, coordination, and accountability. Source: www.streetstostability.com by @kunalmodi
