POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Yesterday, Mayor Daniel Lurie @danielluriesf, SF Chief of Health and Human Services Kunal Modi @kunalmodi, Supervisor Matt Dorsey @mattdorseysf, and community leaders Cedric Akbar @cedricakbar, Cregg Johnson, Gina McDonald @gina.mcdee, and Tom Wolf @twolfrecovery_ joined us for a screening of Building Home and a powerful conversation about homelessness, addiction, and lasting recovery.

At The Salvation Army’s The Way Out @thewayoutsf, we’re turning that conversation into action by helping people get off the streets, overcome addiction, and rebuild their lives.

The results speak for themselves: 83% of participants who complete the program leave sober, employed, and stably housed.

Thank you to the Independent Institute @independentinst and our community partners for bringing San Francisco together around a shared belief: Recovery is possible, and everyone deserves a way out.

Bill Maher was addicted to heroin. A sober living environment helped him get on a path to long-term recovery. Read his story in the Examiner! Fifty years later, he’s still sober and advocating for AB 1556 so other Californians who are homeless and addicted can have drug-free housing options too. #recoveryhousing #recoveryhousingworks #soberlivingenviroment

This is Preston Cochrane, CEO of the @theothersidevillage in Salt Lake City explaining why permanent supportive housing with rules including no drugs works and is what the homeless actually want. Instead, we treat the homeless with the bigotry of low expectations under our current Housing First policy. #homeless #housing #housingfirst

💚 One City. One Day. Countless acts of kindness.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who rolled up their sleeves for One City Day! Because of your time, energy, and heart, our community is a little brighter today.
Special shoutout to the incredible volunteers who helped clean and refresh The Richmond district today. From the volunteers who pulled weeds at The Neighborhood Center’s garden to those who picked up trash along Balboa street - your hard work is helping create a welcoming community where our neighbors can learn, grow, and connect. 🌱

We’re also grateful for the leaders who joined us and continue to champion strong, healthy communities:
✨ Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi @speakerpelosi
✨ Supervisor Connie Chan (District 1) @connie_chan_sf
✨ Kunal Modi, Chief of Health and Human Services for the City and County of San Francisco @kunalmodi
When neighbors, volunteers, community organizations, and civic leaders come together, amazing things happen. Thank you for showing what community looks like in action.

Yes, San Francisco still has issues with homelessness and drugs. Yes, Ellis St. in the Tenderloin is still a mess of open drug use. But, the city is better. Still work to do, but better. @danielluriesf

Today's Juneteenth Celebration was one to remember! Not only did we experience Minister Marvin K. White and Del Seymour's exceptional preaching, we also honored Shireen McSpadden for her tireless work as Executive Director of the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing. As per GLIDE tradition, we presented Shireen with a framed copy of the chef's coat in which she volunteered serving meals to our community.

Kunal Modi, the Chief of Health and Human Services for San Francisco, said: "When I think of Shireen, I think of someone who woke up every day and said, I'm going to do the hard thing. And I find that deeply inspiring." GLIDE's Chief Communications and Public Affairs Officer Karl Robillard was on the same page, saying: "Shireen didn’t shy away from the hardest challenges impacting our most vulnerable communities. She leaned in. She built systems. She fixed things. She took the heat."

We are also happy to announce that this year's Pride T-shirts are now on sale! You can purchase yours at Sunday Celebration or at the church office.
