Kunika Tappert is a German/Zambian artist born and raised in Berlin. Her paintings don’t depict reality. They visualize what’s happening underneath it.

Her work sits at the intersection of contemporary surrealism, expressionist painting, and comic-inspired visual language. Distorted figures, non-naturalistic color, pop-cultural symbols dropped into dreamlike, unstable spaces. The result is something that feels simultaneously familiar and deeply unsettling. In the best way.

What she’s really painting is the interior. Fragmented identity. Psychological states. The inner narratives we carry but rarely see reflected back at us. Her canvases oscillate between narrative suggestion and raw painterly intensity, never resolving, always pulling you deeper.

This is not art that explains itself. It asks you to sit with it.
