Why does Proof still feel so relevant?

Rishan Dhamija, who plays Hal, talks about growing up in India, where careers in engineering, medicine, and other STEM fields are incredibly common, but the gender balance in those spaces still isn’t equal.

And that’s part of what makes this story so relevant.

Proof asks us to look at what happens when a woman’s intelligence, ability, and accomplishments are questioned simply because she doesn’t look like the person we’ve been conditioned to expect.

Why should women have to provide more “proof” that they belong in the room?

Come see Rishan in Arizona Theatre Company’s Proof and experience the conversation for yourself.

No matter what I achieve in life-
The thing I am most of proud of, is the ability to say
“I am @shantanudhamija ‘s son”

Being his son is one of the single greatest joy’s of my life.

In a world full of men who don’t know the first
Thing about kindness

My father has been a shining example
Of how to lead life as a gentle, confident,
charming, funny and KIND man.

To showcase to the world you can be a high achiever,
without compromising your kindness.
That you can lead through love and not fear.

That you can make people laugh
by bringing joy in even their darkest moments.

That you can be a loving emotionally sensitive husband
That you can be a nurturing father
Who raises his kids by leading through example
and not discipline.

A man who talks the talk
And walks the walk.
And does it in STYLE.

Today he is being honoured with a lifetime achievement award.

I couldn’t be more honoured to have inherited his values
His charm
His humour
And just a little bit of his good looks ;)

Here’s to following in your footsteps for the rest of my life.
Here’s to you, papa.

I love you ❤️

Who should come see Proof? According to the cast… pretty much everyone.
Fathers and daughters. Young women. Families. Math and science lovers. Anyone who has ever wrestled with love, trust, expectations, or what it means to be seen for what you’re capable of.
Yes, Proof has mathematics at its center, but at its heart, it’s a story about family, identity, love, and the complicated ways we inherit both brilliance and expectations. It also opens up conversations about gender and the ways women’s contributions can be overlooked.
Proof runs in Tucson September 27 through October 17, then in Tempe/Phoenix October 24 through November 8. Tickets are available through Arizona Theatre Company.

Ever wonder what actually happens on the first day of rehearsal? 🎭
At Arizona Theatre Company, we start with a meet & greet and breakfast before hearing from our Artistic Director and Executive Director. Then, the director introduces the production and the vision for the show.
From there, the creative team takes us inside the world they’re building with presentations from our scenic and costume designers. We gather everyone together for the first official cast photo, and then it’s time for the moment we’ve all been waiting for: the cast sits down for the very first read-through of the play.
It’s a tradition we repeat with every production, and one of our favorite ways to officially begin bringing a story from the page to the stage.
Next stop: Proof on stage. 🎭
