The Fort Coat blew up last week—unexpected and unplanned. I designed it three years ago, and I still wear it daily. It’s a hug you can live in. Six months ago, I made the call to slow down the brand. Not shutting it down—just changing lanes. Now, I’m running it like a musician: when inspiration hits, I’ll drop something new. One piece, maybe a small collection. This is exactly what I wanted—to focus on a few core pieces. We don’t need so much stuff. What makes me come alive is creative direction, and I’m working with other brands, adding value where and when I can. by @kuzyknyc

When I was just thinking about starting a brand, I knew I wanted to make pieces that were for everyone. The jacket the young girl stole from her mother’s closet. The piece you keep from your ex boyfriend. The treasure you kept from your grandmother. I wanted these pieces to be passed down, collecting stories along the way. I had 1 cowhide jacket, I would wear it around nyc as the messy party girl I was, and everyone wanted it. All ages, genders, walks of life. Then I made 5, then 10 and just kept going taken in New York, New York by @kuzyknyc
