Maleny Misfits in China

Three country boys dropped into Shanghai for two weeks of creative chaos, unforgettable food, and tear-inducing laughter. Between deadlines, shenanigans, and late-night storyboarding, the trip became one of our most cherished memories, an electric two weeks of exploration, expression, and pushing ourselves.

Field Notes: NIGHTCRAWLER

I was passing through Brisbane on my way home, meeting up with my photographer friend @cusaqqasuc who also took my portrait. By the time we arrived in South Bank, the light was leaving; we made do with our spontaneous decision. Utilising the Sony A6000 adapted to a vintage Canon FD 1.8 50mm for an evening that required adaptability. I've been making more of an effort lately to use my digital camera and am looking to improve my skills further after being strictly analog for years.

The singlet I'm wearing is the ROSEN-X Termina Military Tank, a versatile cotton staple great for a multi-faceted lifestyle in the unpredictability of the Queensland climate.

Bright Earth Tones / Coast & Rocks
Warm light, clear skies, and textures:

Concluding the Tasmania set on the eastern edges of the state Freycinet, Bicheno, Bay of Fires, and Marion Bay—where otherworldly rock textures, opal-blue waters, and dramatic landscapes lie.

A distinct essence runs through Tasmania as a whole—a quiet isolation. You feel small among landmarks and terrain that seem unchanged since prehistoric times. It gives the impression of standing at the edge of the world.

TASMANIA SET 2

Lush Greens / Forest & Waterfalls
Rich in foliage, shadowed and alive:

What started as a random detour to indulge my cheese-wretch tendencies at the Pyengana Dairy quickly became one of my favourite areas to explore. Caught off guard and in awe as I passed through the luxuriant roads, I found myself constantly pulling over for short walks leading to waterfalls, moss-choked paths, dilapidated dams, and forgotten Depression-era structures silent monuments to pioneers who once carved a new frontier from this verdant and untamed land.

The density of green here was unlike anything I’d experienced: temperate, alive, and overgrown. The area held a hypnotic tranquillity, especially when light rain softened the scenery. It brought to mind those uncanny landscapes in old Soviet films, where time stretches, and nature quietly reclaims its course.

I highly recommend visiting if you’re ever in Tasmania. Don’t forget a tripod and some 400–800 ISO film.
