PODCAST 008 - @tenra___ 💫

Finding Clae & Kye was a bit of a moment for us. It’s hard to explain exactly what caught our attention, but they just “get it”. The selections, the pacing, knowing when to push things and when to pull them back. There’s a real understanding of how a mix should move. Nothing feels forced or like it’s trying to fit neatly into one sound. They let things develop naturally and aren’t afraid to take it somewhere unexpected. That’s exactly what drew us to them in the first place, and this two-hour mix is a perfect example of it.

Really happy to have these two contribute to this podcast edition.

finding the balance between dynamism and simplicity. not overcomplicating it, but keeping it interesting to the ear over extended listening.

Opening set from last Friday at Black Bear Lodge, mixed and mastered, now on SoundCloud. Link in bio.

Opening the night, this mix was partly inspired by the sounds we heard at Outsider Festival over Easter.

We brought in a lot of the music we’ve been enjoying lately: slower techno around 130 BPM, percussive and bouncy, with plenty of space.

We’d prepared more hypnotic, left-field tracks than what ended up getting played. After trying one early on, the room seemed to connect more with the simpler, more direct rhythms, so the direction shifted.

We each bring around 30 tracks, take turns picking, and react to whatever the other person plays, thinking about what we’d want to hear if we were in the crowd.

The last 45 minutes is our favourite part of the recording. As the room filled, the energy lifted and the final two ethereal tracks created a natural handover into the next act. taken in Black Bear Lodge by @tenra___
