Proud to have done Santa Cruz 70.3 now 2 years in a row! Unfortunately not exactly the race I was hoping for, but sometimes things happen and give you a different challenge. After making it out of the water first with the @rokamultisport Maverick X.3, I unfortunately had a slow leak in my back wheel that became an unfixable flat as the race went on. Luckily race support had my back and got me back on the highway before I had to consider abandoning the race. I tried my best to recover from the not so ideal bike leg and ran one of my better executed runs to finish with an effort I was still proud of. No matter which way the race decided to treat me, Im still so great full to be safe, surrounded by such supportive people, and still so excited to see where my next race takes me. I have already met such amazing people through this sport and have seen so many people find this sport along with me and fall in love with it. I can’t wait to train again already and will be patiently waiting for my legs to start working properly again. Thanks @brillgoou and everyone else for sharing your photos and videos with me! taken in Santa Cruz, California by @kyle.brill

The Williamson bowl is very scenic…

But it’s also quite tedious to navigate especially if you are attempting a single day push which means you’ve already covered ~7,000 feet of climbing and 12 miles getting up Shepherd Pass.

The only true route finding decision is when to begin ascending Williamson’s west face, as the gully is not visible until you are right below it. In my extensive internet research during the editing process of the YouTube video (I have developed a bad habit of doing more research AFTER I’ve climbed/skied a mountain than before 😬) I’ve seen people using some black stained rock as a landmark, but we were relying on the FKT gps route which had a slightly different ascent/descent path through the lower face.

Regardless it seems to be a bit of “choose your own adventure” to get into the gully. At the top of the gully we ran into @kyle.brill, which was lucky because I hadn’t done my research for the top out and that would have taken us a while to figure out the chimney on our own.

We followed his route up the chimney and got onto the summit, my watch clocking in an almost even 10,000 feet of ascent (in high accuracy mode) which probably wasn’t too far off.

An absolute burger of an ascent.

Swimming has been apart of my life everyday since before I could remember. It has been the greatest gift in my life I’ve ever received. Words cannot describe how much I would give to do it all again. Thank you to everyone that has been there for me along this incredible journey. I love all of you so much, and I will never forget all the things this sport and the people I met along the way have given me. Hopefully- in my next chapter of my life, I can find something that I’m truly this passionate about again. With that- I formally announce my retirement. by @kyle.brill

I’m so exited to announce my verbal commitment to UCSB! Thank you to my coaches, friends, and family that has gotten me to this point In my life. Not only have I chosen just to swim and study at UCSB, I’ve chosen the school because I truly feel I belong there. From the vibes you get from campus with everyone biking everywhere, to seeing the great community around Isla Vista, I know the school is meant for me.
Cheers to a great next four years!
