Huge shoutout to Megan Fairchild @mfairchild17 as she retires today from @nycballet ! The first time I noticed Megan, back in a 2002 rehearsal for Robert LaFosse’s @robertwlafosse Land of Nod, I remember thinking, “That girl’s a star already.” And she was.
Here’s a selection of photos from 2006 and 2008, of Megan in Balanchine’s Divertimento from “Le Baiser de la Fée”, with Joaquin De Luz @joaquindeluz , Ballo Della Regina, with Benjamin Millepied, @benjaminmillepied and sitting offstage at SPAC before her entrance in Symphony in C. Also, a shot from Peter Martins’ Fearful Symmetries, from 2006.
Have a blast, Megan! Go get ‘em, and congrats! #ballerinaretirement #ballerinaretirement #nycbballerina #meganfairchildretirement #meganfairchild taken in The Theater Formerly Known As New York State Theater, Lincoln Center by @kylefromanphoto

I had a wonderful time shooting preproduction photos for the world premiere of @barryboehm10’s new play OUR HOUSE, put on by @tososnyc, NYC’s oldest and longest producing LGBTQIA+ theater company. Mark Finley is directing, and the cast includes Christopher Borg, Tim Burke, CJ DiOrio, Jalen Ford, Nancy Slusser and Jon Spano. Performances are 2/26-3/21 at the Gural Theatre, on West 53rd and 10th Ave., so get your tickets! #barryboehm #ourhouseplay #barryboehmourhouse #tosos #tosos2026 taken in Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theatre by @kylefromanphoto

I had a wonderful time speaking with ballerina turned writer @gavinalarsen for her article in @balletherald about the book I designed and photo edited for @georgebalanchinefoundation, IN BALANCHINE’S STEPS. We talked about translating the GBF’s video coaching archives into a photography book, the importance of preserving intention in choreography, and the power of a good photograph. Gavin is a very talented writer, and her article (linked in bio) is a joy to read. Check it out! Here are @robbiefairchild and @devon.teusch dancing the pas de deux from Balanchine’s Apollo in 2023. This is Jasmine Jain, @jasmine_jain18, a talented dancer at @balletacademyeast who has her own podcast, @pushingoverthebox. I got to work with Jasmine a few weeks ago when I shot her audition photos for summer intensives. She graciously invited me onto her podcast to share about my life, my road to becoming a @nycballet dancer, and then my transition to dance photography. Check my bio for a YouTube link. Thanks again, Jasmine. I had so much fun! #balletpodcast #studentauditionphotos #summerintensivephotos #kylefromanphotography #balletdancerandpodcaster #jasminejain #pushingoverthebox #pushingovertheboxpodcast #balletcareer #dancerretirement taken in Gibney by @kylefromanphoto

If you’re a fan of @nycballet and Balanchine, or you’re just looking for a fantastic dance photography book, buy a copy of IN BALANCHINE’S STEPS: How the George Balanchine Foundation Preserves His Genius, available on Amazon. The book describes the @georgebalanchinefoundation ‘s Video Archives, created by @nancy.reynolds.56232 in 1994. These coaching sessions were also beautifully photographed by Brian Rushton and Costas, and included ballet icons like Violette Verdy, Patricia Wilde, Karin von Aroldingen, and many, many others. It was an absolute honor to curate, photo edit and design this book- I’ve been a lover of all things Balanchine most of my life.

Here’s another spread from The Later Years section of the book, with Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux and Karin von Aroldingen coaching NYCB’s Rebecca Krohn and Amar Ramasar in STRAVINSKY VIOLIN CONCERTO in 2016. These photos are by Costas.

There are wonderful comments throughout the book, by dancers and dance writers, all pulled together by text editor, Mindy Aloff. I’ll only be posting a few more spreads, so go buy a copy of the book for yourself, and lose yourself in the beauty of Balanchine. #inbalanchinessteps #inbalanchinesstepshowthegeorgebalanchinefoundationpreserveshisgenius #balletcoaching #balanchineballets #coachingbalanchine #jeanpierrebonnefoux #karinvonaroldingen #stravinskyviolinconcerto #amarramasar #rebeccakrohn #balanchinesstravinskyviolinconcerto taken in Samuel B & David Rose Building by @kylefromanphoto
