Poppy Torrence Meyer, born at 12:39 PM on September 29, has already changed our lives forever. 💕

For nine months, she was carried and cared for by our incredible surrogate, who gave us the greatest gift of our lives. And when Poppy was ready to enter the world, she was welcomed by an extraordinary team of women who cared for her, supported us, and helped bring our daughter safely into our arms. We will never be able to fully express our gratitude!

As two gay dads, we know that families like ours are possible because of people who believe there is more than one beautiful way to create a family. Surrogacy gave us our daughter. It gave Poppy her dads. And it gave us a family we once could only dream about.

We also know that the path to parenthood for LGBTQ+ people cannot be taken for granted. We will always stand up for surrogacy, reproductive freedom, and the right of every family to be treated with dignity and respect. Happy 40th, Jimmy. My big brother and, for as long as I can remember, someone I’ve looked up to. You were the one waking up early making sure we were all on time, the star on the basketball court, the serious and steady one to my chaotic nature. We couldn’t have been more different, but somehow I always knew there was no one I’d rather have as my big brother.

I still remember dropping you off at West Point and realizing the four of us would never live under the same roof again. You went on to do things for our country that I couldn’t even understand at the time and probably never will.

You’ve always been there for me, never judged me, and have been a rock for everyone who knows you. I’m unbelievably proud of everything you’ve accomplished. Never surprised, but always proud.

I can’t wait for our baby to look up to you the way I have my entire life. Forever in awe of you, and forever grateful to be your little brother. ❤️ by @kyletorrence
