November is National Epilepsy Awareness Month 💜 I’m not a big fan of long captions either, so if
you read this, thank you.

As Miss Solana Beach USA, I am SO grateful to have a platform to talk about something that’s shaped so much of my life — my journey with epilepsy.

Since I was 16, hospitals, tests, & seizures have been a routine part of my world. I spent so much time just wishing for a sense of normalcy & independence again. There were days when neuropathy, aura, and my postictal state meant I couldn’t stand, walk, speak, or even see, and the fear of not knowing what my future looked like was deeply overwhelming. Along the way, I battled depression and anxiety - which is something so many people in the epilepsy community quietly face.

After years of trial and error, I finally found a medication that controls my seizures. I’m lucky. I really don’t take that lightly. I drive now, l’m seizure free, I have so many incredible people in my life, and I’m so damn happy! But so many people are still searching for the same stability and peace of mind that l’ve finally found.

Epilepsy affects over 3.4 million Americans, yet it’s still surrounded by misunderstanding. Learning how to help during a seizure — staying calm, protecting someone’s head, and never putting anything in their mouth - can truly save a life.

To my mom, my family, my friends, and anyone who has ever offered a hand, a kind word, or a moment of understanding: thank you. You’ve been my lifeline and words can’t express my gratitude.
