Dear @kymmellen,

We love the @theruth! We attend shows as often as we can and feel fortunate to have such high quality productions so close to our campus. A week or so ago a group of us attended #prideandprejudice and the show, along with your sweet director’s note, stayed with us long after the performance ended.

Live theater is so beautiful and exciting: no two performances are ever exactly the same. That beauty also exists in people, though our differences aren’t always met with understanding or affection. Your production offered both. You brought warmth to the characters’ particular ways of moving through the world and treated their longing for love and connection with tenderness and respect.

For us, that was deeply personal. Many of us know what it feels like to be misunderstood or to have our differences noticed before anything else about us. Seeing characters whose uniqueness was so openly embraced was a welcome reminder that those parts of us are worthy of affection, too. Whether or not you envisioned any particular character as #autistic, we thank you for choosing to represent so warmly those of us who live on the “quirkier” side of life.

#RepresentatioMatters. It has the power to change how society sees #neurodivergent people. It challenges stereotypes, normalizes our presence, and helps others see our #humanity. Thank you for bringing such authenticity and heart to Jane Austen’s characters. Your production honored the hopes we carry in our own lives: to be understood, to find connection, and to be loved for exactly who we are.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Your friends at ScenicView Academy for Young Adults with #Autism by @kymmellen

UNLV CFA (College of Fine Arts) Graduation this morning. I was able to MC and support the many talented graduates. It’s always such a rejuvenating experience to see so many happy (and exhausted!) young people, along with their family and friends celebrating their success.

Tough week! I had two rotten molars pulled last Tuesday. They’d been pulsating with pain for awhile. Still not recovered. Big gaping whiles in the back of my mouth with bruises, swelling, stitches working their way out. And the pain meds sometimes make me vomit. Why is dentistry still in the Middle Ages?! by @kymmellen
