I was invited to develop and lead a workshop at the House of Wisdom in Sharjah, in dialogue with The Dice Player, an exhibition dedicated to the work of Mahmoud Darwish—A poet from Palestine and one of the most influential poets of the Arab world, whose writing explores home, memory, and belonging.

In collaboration with the UAEBBY, I brought Super Power of Me into that space—inviting students to begin with their own words.

They wrote in response to Darwish.
Then we translated those words into portraits.

Something internal—often unspoken—begins to take form.

Something they can see, and stand inside.

THANK YOU NEW YORK TIMES!! Our super powered children are in the spotlight again, shining as the stars the are! and brilliantly. We have our second free children's workshop TOMORROW SATURDAY JULY 23 FROM 2-330 PM. And until September 30, you can come on out to see the full exhibit of our portraits and super power poems at the Dr. Ronald McNair Park, a NYC Park, located along Eastern Parkway and Washington Avenue in Brooklyn. The installation will be up thru end of September, and all the poems from the workshop will be on display at the Youth Wing of the Brooklyn Public Library, Central location.

We use the exhibit as a teaching tool to inspire the children for their own writing. The writing they complete in the workshop will be displayed in the Youth Wing of the Brooklyn Library. Workshop slots are limited. Register by RSVPing to hello@superpowerofme.org

“Good afternoon Your Highness, Your Excellencies, esteemed guests and fellow photographers. It is an honor to be here with all of you…” And so it was—one of the most incredible experiences of my photography life. Being invited to speak at the Opening Ceremony of @xposurexpf along with legendary photographers, Dan Winters @danwintersphoto and James Balog @james_balog; give His Highness Sheikh Sultan a tour of my gallery, as well as welcoming the U.S. Ambassador, Sean Murphy and his wife Hengameh to my exhibit. Grateful beyond words to all, and so happy for the new friendships with my fellow exhibiting photographers and all the wonderful people i got to chat with at my gallery, gratitude to Sharjah Media team, the Xposure teams that interviewed and photographed me and to the local and international press. Was simply amazing at every turn. 🙏🙏🙏💕💕💕

I was invited to present and engage students in our @superpowerofmeproject in March of this year. It was amazing to work with such eager, enthusiastic and creative students from 3 schools. Though it was a full-on schedule, I managed toward the end of my time there to treat myself to a weekend of leisure, and photography at one of the many breathtaking beaches on the tip of the island.

Swipe thru and dont miss the video in the middle!
I met these children in a lakeside community near Akosombo, Ghana.

At first they were understandably wary of the camera.

So I put it down, changed into my swimsuit, and jumped into the lake.

“Who wants to race me?”

Everything changed.

For the next hour we swam, laughed, splashed, and played. By the time I picked up the camera again, we were no longer strangers.

I’ve come to realize that connection is often more important than the photograph.

The photograph is simply what remains of the encounter.

What a magical day.

This video captures a Super Power of Me writing workshop and portrait session hosted by UAE Board on Books for Young People and the House of Wisdom in Sharjah, UAE. This very special edition of Super Power of Me was invited into collaboration with The Dice Player, an exhibition at The House of Wisdom honoring the legendary Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.

Working in dialogue with Darwish’s themes of love, absence, exile, belonging, and becoming, 13 Arab youth were invited to explore who they are through image and language.

The workshop was held in collaboration with esteemed writers Maitha AlKhayaat and Sheikha AlMutairi, whose presence and guidance helped shape the space.

First we all toured the exhibit together. Next, each participant wrote a personal “superpower” poem/statement, then stepped in front of the camera to be seen—on their own terms.

What emerged was honesty, imagination, vulnerability… and a quiet, self-defined strength.

“My superpower is my ability to recognize my incompleteness.”

“Thinking of others makes the heart gentle.”

“How did I become this new me when she was the old me?”

This video, created byUAEBBY and House of Wisdom, offers a glimpse into that process—voices, presence, and the courage of self-expression.

It’s rooted in the real migrations of childhood, the movement of dreams across oceans, borders, and languages.

Happy Women’s Day to my mom, aunties, colleagues, friends, and all aligned spirits.
Women are the first doctors, teachers, lovers, accountants, and nutritionists of our families. When we are strong and supported, our families and communities thrive. When we are lacking in any area, it can affect the health, spirit, and financial stability of the whole household.
We are the spirit and backbone of the family.
Cheers to the warriors who sometimes have to carry the role of both mom and dad—holding the family with strength, love, and resilience.
Today we honor the wisdom, labor, resilience, and love that women carry every single day.
