It's all about Patek Philippe this week, so how about a look back at the reference 958G-001 Nautilus Desk Clock introduced in April 2026 for the 50th anniversary of the Nautilus.

Despite having a three digit reference number as usual for pocket watches, rather than a five digit number like most of their clocks, Patek presented this as a Desk Clock, perhaps to highlight the ingenious "kickstand," as SJX humorously calls it.

The watch/clock features the 8-day movement used in last year's 5328. It comes in a 51 mm white gold case with diamond hour markers and a price tag of CHF 205,000 (now about US $250,000). It is limited to 100 pieces, though perhaps other iterations of this beauty will come in the future?

Flashback to November 2025 when one of four stainless steel Patek 1518s returned to auction amidst discussion about the degree to which its dial had been serviced, ultimately selling for CHF 14.19 million (then about US $17.6 million) after selling in 2016 for CHF 11 million, which at the time made it the most expensive piece ever sold at auction. Made in 1943

Do you have any buddy watches? Pieces that you’ve gotten together with a family member, significant other, or friends? Many years ago a friend, his brother, and father decided to order Havana dial Chronomètre Souverains together. The father eventually dropped out because he’s a Rolex guy and happy that way. The brothers jointly took delivery last year. A pretty cool bond and a terrific watch, of course

Despite having a then 10-year wait list, Kari Voutilainen surprised in November @dubaiwatchweek by offering a moonphase power reserve complication in a new case to mark the forthcoming retirement of his original Vingt-8 calibre. In the second photo, one can see that he swapped his traditional convex bezel for a concave bezel paired with new straight lugs

Personally I’m a fan of the original case and original tear drop or sporty lugs - if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it - nevertheless I’m in awe of the creativity and experimentation the maestro continually brings to his work. No doubt a key reason why his wait list now stands at 12-years and has been temporarily paused
