P E R F E C T L Y - I M P E R F E C T

No one is perfect and our demand to be perfect only creates more chaos in our lives. I remember hating my body because I was skinny. Not to mention hearing it constantly from others. I was at a point that my response would be “tell me something I don’t know”! Over the years, I came to terms with loving my little body and flaunting her in every way.

It’s important to embrace who you are and the pure beauty you encompass. The beauty inside is far more intriguing than what is shown on the outside. #loveyours

Siraad: A Pivot to the Awakening
BY LANISHA HARRISON

“I remember spending years envisioning the day I’d become a mother…”

Journey with us this Mother’s Day through the awakening, unraveling + rebirth of our Birthlooms Storyteller, Lanisha Harrison.

This Mother’s Day, we honor motherhood as both a sacred arrival and a profound confrontation with self. Through Lanisha’s story in @foresythe.tdp, Siraad: A Pivot to the Awakening, we are reminded that birth can crack us open, illuminating not only new life, but also the parts of ourselves still longing to be held, healed + understood.

“Parenting him means re-parenting me.”

Her story carries us through unexpected pregnancy, the realities of postpartum transformation, the loneliness that can exist even within partnership + the sacred work of facing inherited wounds while choosing something different for our children.

“I want to be the difference.”

From the cold operating room at Boston Medical Center to the quiet grief of postpartum disconnection, Lanisha’s words speak honestly about the emotional complexities many mothers carry in silence. Yet even amid exhaustion, fear + uncertainty, she continually chooses light.

“I can give him what I didn’t have.
Not perfection, but presence.”

Through Siraad, meaning Light, Lanisha begins a journey of awakening, one rooted in truth-telling, community care, self-reflection + the courage to no longer carry everything alone. Her story reminds us that healing is not linear, and motherhood often asks us to meet the younger versions of ourselves with tenderness for the very first time.

“There’s no running anymore.
No numbing, no hiding, only truth.”

Today we celebrate the mothers navigating postpartum shifts, inner child healing, partnership, identity + the sacred tension of becoming while raising new life.

May we remember:

“The first step of change is knowing.”

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at @midwifery.black.birthing @thediahannproject @foresythe.tdp + @birthlooms

My birthing story…
A testament to triumph
to resilience learned in real time
to self love born in the in between

I grieved the dream of what was
then learned to stand inside what is
Becoming provided me the growth that was once stagnant

I thank God daily
for the son chosen for me
for the woman I became in bringing him here
for the spaces I was asked to walk through
as a postpartum mama

Thank you, @midwifery.black.birthing
for holding space
for witnessing my becoming
for allowing me to tell my story

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there striving and thriving through the chaos. You are the true Superhero.

Postpartum running met me differently.
In my body.
In my mind.
In my spirit.

What once felt effortless, community, connection, movement, became a return.
A remembering.
A becoming.

Running asked more of me then.
It asked me to face postpartum shadows.
To stay accountable when it would have been easier to stop.
To choose hard things.
To pause and ask who I am now and how I want to show up in this chapter.
To be great, not just for myself but for my son Siraad.

These runs were survival.
Devotion in motion.
Miles that stitched my sense of self back together.
Miles that pushed me past limits I didn’t know I could cross.
Miles held by a village I could lean into.

Running gave me freedom when I felt confined.
It embraced me on days I felt unseen.
It loved me when I was learning how to love myself again.

Running @26.truemarathon wasn’t just a run. It was sanity in stride, shared with a community that never let me run alone.
It’s more than miles.
It’s culture.
It’s community.
It’s belonging.
It’s for everyone.

Siraad and I are forever grateful for this community.

Year 36 was a year of learning that GOD DOESN’T GIVE US WHAT WE WANT, BUT RATHER HE GIVES US WHAT WE NEED.

The darkness —> the pivot —> the awakening.

May this new year be better than the last and may my lessons continue to be blessings.

Happy Birthday to me!

There’s a lot to discuss about mommyhood but I’ll leave that for another day. Today I’ll soak up all of the love and kisses from the most handsome boy I get to call my son.

(Last year’s shenanigans)

I can’t believe it’s a year later and we are back to celebrate another marathon season. A time was HAD on the OTHER SIDE! As I reflect on the year that I had post running my first marathon I am reminded of the dedication and strength (mentally and physically) that one must encompass TO MAKE IT THROUGH. The long runs were no joke and the weather never made it easy. With that said, I realized that the training days were by far the most challenging than the marathon day itself.

Yet I did that and did it pregnant! Since then a sis has been down out and I’ve been slowly getting back to running.

This year I’m excited to get a quick run in and celebrate those running with/for culture and community.
