Weekend Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) classes are back!🙌

After taking a break for 1 year and only being available privately, weekend group classes to get initial training or renew your permit are available starting October 2026.

Private CCW training is available Mon-Fri.

It's been straightforward to apply for a CCW permit since 2022:

1. Apply with your local law enforcement dept. in L.A. County.
2. Attend interview and some L.A. cities require a psych evaluation.
3. After background check, they will approve you for the final step: the mandatory training.

Most CCW schools lecture you in a classroom with very little actual shooting.

We are the opposite: majority training is at the range because we will make you better shooters for the serious responsibility of carrying a gun in public.

We want everyone in your life to take advantage of a rare opportunity to learn advanced, realistic skills that could save lives while not endangering innocent bystanders.

So we're the only CCW school that invites your family/friends to join you, even if they're not applying for a CCW, so you all become more capable, responsible shooters together.

LAPS clients who've taken 2 classes within 1 year get credited 8 hours towards initial 16hr training, and also get 10% off using LAPS10.

If you already have a permit, renew with LAPS and get your heart rate up shooting on the move in our Run & Gun class.

Some agencies now let you add new guns to your permit anytime and not have to wait until your renewal.

HORRIFIC: 16 year old boy used a pump shotgun bought by his mother to massacre 3 young children (5, 8, 11) and a teacher at an Oregon elementary school.

2 bystanders tried to intervene.

The 1st was a driver in the school parking lot who confronted him and called 911 after the boy shot at him in his pickup truck multiple times.

Then a father of a student, who was armed, chased after him into the school, and killed the shooter before police arrived.

Another student, 7, and a teacher are in critical condition in the hospital.

In both my Pistol 101 and Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) classes, we talk about how children get their hands on guns...whether they are mass shooters, or like so many young males like the 15yo I was, trying to show off and be macho in front of the guys....

Children gain access to guns because parents are irresponsible about securely locking them up.

Communities and courts are starting to hold parents accountable if their child assesses a gun and does harm. Especially if the parent knows their child had emotional issues and didn't take further action to prevent their assess to firearms.

We don't know yet the identity and background of the 16yo shooter.

It's another example of an armed bystander intervening to stop an active shooter, like the 2 men who engaged the shooter at the In N Out in Idaho.

It's a common question we discuss in CCW class: whether to intervene in an active shooter situation

Intervening in an active shooter situation as a civilian is fraught with risk and comes with a lot of consequences afterwards.

But I don't think any parent would hesitate and stand by while their child's life is threatened. Like the parents who wanted to rush in at the Uvalde, Texas elementary school mass shooting, only to be stopped by cops who waited over an hour before confronting the shooter.

"To the community member who heroically intervened to stop further loss of life, your actions carry a heavy emotional burden and I just want you to know that my thoughts are with you,” Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek said.

Contry Costa County Sheriff had banned Concealed Carry Weapon permit holders from adding red dot optics and weapon mounted lights and banned single action only guns.

Remember I posted recently about a large security company that also banned its 7K personnel from having red dots on their guns?

Why wouldn't these agencies want people to be more competent, more accurate shooters?

And swipe to the 3rd slide how ignorant media are about guns....

They describe red dot sights as a form of a laser and single action guns as guns that don't need to be re-cocked after the 1st shot.🤣🤡

They also mentioned another lawsuit by @secondamendmentfoundation against Santa Clara County for making the process of getting a CCW so costly that it's a financial barrier for folks who want to carry to defend themselves.

This incident touches on a lot of topics covered in our Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) class:

Castle Doctrine in CA (PC 198.5) gives you right to stand your ground within the confines of your home, but not the front & back yards.

CALCRIM 3475 says you can use some degree of force but not automatically use lethal force if a trespasser refuses to leave.

If the trespasser presents an imminent threat, then deadly force may be justified under 3 elements of CALCRIM 505:

1. Reasonable belief of imminent danger of death or great bodily injury.
2. Reasonable belief deadly force was necessary against that danger.
3. Used no more force than was reasonably necessary to defend against that danger.

Also while CA has no Stand Your Ground statute, CALCRIM 505 & CA case law provides that a non-aggressor has no duty to retreat and is entitled to stand their ground anywhere they are lawfully present.

While the police have pressed no criminal charges based on the evidence, in CA, even if you aren't criminally chatged, you can still be sued in civil court by the person you harmed or their family.

Thankfully, this elderly homeowner and his daughter didn't suffer anything worse, but it could've turned out differently.

Just because the law affords you some legal right to investigate a drunk person on your lawn at 3am, doesn't mean you have to put yourself at more risk unecessarily.

To avoid this whole traumatic experience, it would've been more prudent to stay safe behind locked doors and just call the police to investigate the trespasser.

Until you can shoot as fast as possible and keep all shots in center mass at 5yds, you're not a shooter. You're just a gun owner.

Most people who own guns seriously overestimate their ability in a real life situation.

Whether you have a gun for home defense or concealed carry, if you can't shoot with urgency like your life depends on it AND be accountable for all your shots, then you're just a liability endangering everyone around you shooting blindly under panic.

Don't be that person. Drop the ego and come learn how to shoot like a Boss.

Especially people who want to carry a gun in public with a Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) permit.

After fixing their basic fundamentals in Pistol 101, CCW applicants go right into Pistol 201: Speed & Performance with our students who are learning to shoot fast for the 1st time.

They learn safe holster draw, and how to shoot fast while being defensively accurate and not endanger bystanders.

There was 1 CCW applicant who only has a revolver -- she quickly learned what a disadvantage that was, struggling and fighting to squeeze the heavy double action trigger and not being able to shoot fast.

In a life and death situation, when your gun needed to go off yesterday, don't handicap yourself with a double action only trigger.

People who shoot indoors and CCW trainers who teach indoors can't practice any of these realistic skills.

Props to all these students who braved triple digit heat and learned to shoot like a Pro!

This Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) applicant is typical of the kind of folks who want to carry a gun in public:

1. First bought a pistol in July.
2. Never taken a formal lesson until required to do so at my CCW class.
3. Only signed up with LAPS because it was the closest to where he lived.
4. In Pistol 101, which I make all CCW initial applicants take, he didn't know how to unload his pistol. The only way he knew how to unload his pistol was to shoot all the bullets until it's all empty. "OK, you want to carry a gun in public. If there is no longer any danger, you're going to just keep firing your gun in public until it's empty?"🙄
5. He could not shoot straight at 5yds. where my standard for 1st time shooters is to shoot 5 shots through the same hole.
6. He is applying for a CCW permit to get a job as executive VIP protection, but when we work from holster, he is pointing his gun everywhere with his finger all over the trigger when trying to put his gun back in its holster.

The only state and county and his local police department shooting requirement to qualify for a CCW permit is to get 70% of shots ANYWHERE on a huge silhouette at 3, 5, 7 yds, slow shooting with no time limit.

Most CCW trainers do the bare minimum and only make their students shoot this most basic of qualifications. There are applicants who barely pass it.

The least I can do is fix his basic fundamentals so he went from sucking at 5yds on Day 1 to shooting bullseyes out to 7yds on Day 2.

And I go beyond this pathetically easy qualification to carry a gun in public.

After Pistol 101, CCW applicants also take Pistol 201: Speed & Performance to learn actual realistic skills to shoot fast from holster, while being defensively accurate and not endanger bystanders.

Pistol 101 student who hasn't touched a gun since he was a kid shoots better than all Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) applicants 💪🏾

Those are the Pistol 101 student's 1st shots of 9mm with irons and then next shots of 9mm with red dot.

After 1 year of not teaching CCW group lessons, I had 4 CCW applicants this past weekend teaching it again, and this 1 Pistol 101 student.

Why do I make CCW applicants sit through my entire 4 hour Pistol 101 class?

To have my Pistol 101 students humble them and show them how much they suck, as people wanting to carry a gun in public.

None of the CCW applicants could tell me the 4 rules of firearms safety. But they want to carry a gun in public.

None of the CCW applicants could shoot as accurately and consistently as the 1 Pistol 101 student with their 1st shots. But they want to carry a gun in public.

We only shoot 20 rounds in Pistol 101.

That is all it takes for me to assess where they are at with their 1st 5 shots.

And then fix their fundamentals and accuracy with the remaining 15 shots.

We don't judge how people come to us (ok, maybe privately after class)...our job is to make people better, more responsible shooters than when they came to us.

The more they are humble with us and with the awesome responsibilityit takes to carry a gun in public, the more we can help them.

Unfortunately, the CCW applicant you hear dismissing my Pistol 101 student as a "show-off" at the end of the video is the typical smug ego of people who can't shoot straight but want to carry a gun in public.

ROAD RAGE

It's one of the most common things I talk about in both Pistol 101 and Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) classes because it is so common to see and experience on a regular basis.

In this video, the shorter man is backed up against his driver side and his woman partner comes to his aid, putting herself between him and the aggressive taller couple, using her arm to back them away from her man.

From what I see, the taller woman throws a punch at the shorter woman and then her taller male partner attacks the shorter male.

The shorter couple both immediately react to being physically attacked, and then the taller couple found out...maybe don't approach and corner people by their car, intimidate and lay hands on others.

There are consequences.

Now imagine this same incident but folks are carrying concealed guns with a permit.

None of us are above losing our cool.

We have to be better versions of ourselves out there.

Emotional maturity and intelligence to avoid unecessary conflict and confrontation doesn't come natural but it can be learned and practiced.

Throw in the dynamics of being a couple and the natural urge to defend each other's honor, and things get volatile real fast.

You can have each other's back but in healthier, mature ways, and not putting your partner at more risk.

One couple was the obvious aggressor here. The other lady really tried to keep them away from her man.

Thankfully, nothing worse happened here than some bruises and bruised egos.

Val shooting a Texas Star steel target 👊🏾💥

The most challenging targets in competition are moving targets, like swingers and at yesterday's @ohshoot_sc Wed Night steel match, the Texas Star.

Definitely a rare opportunity to practice on such a fun, frustrating target.😆

There's a strategy to the order in which you shoot the plates to minimize how much they move.

If you shoot the top one first, the star is still balanced and not moving.

Then, pick a side, and as you shoot the next one, the star will naturally and predictably spin the next plate up to where you shot last.

That way, you just hold your aim on one side of the star, and not try to move your aim all over the star, chasing the plates.

It was Val's 1st time shooting the star and she learned fast!💪🏾👏
