I got to see one of my favourite sleeves healed and settled about 2.5 years in. On my beautiful non biological big sister P 🦋 I love doing blackout work, I love geometric compositions that are line based, I love making meaning from yantra diagrams and adapting them to sleeves. I finished the biggest tattoo I’ve ever done a few weeks ago, and I couldn’t be more proud of what my client and I achieved in getting here. I did this clients very first tattoo, the colour lotus on the back of the left arm, and 3 years later we ended up here. So many sessions went into this, so much dedication, patience and perseverance went into it. Welcome to the very small club of people in the world who have a full back piece M, you earned it every step of the way.

When I started making content about my design philosophy, it was to educate my clients, because I see so many of my clients getting shamelessly grifted by unethical tattooers. I didn’t expect at all that what I was sharing would resonate with tattooers or that it would lead to me taking on an educational role to people of my own profession. The first two seminars in Calgary went down in the past few weeks and I am very honoured and humbled to have had such talented, experienced and knowledgeable artists come to me from the US and from across Canada to attend. @az.inkz took this beautiful photo of me while I was guesting at my home away from home @serpentsongtattoo last month. It’s been a whirlwind past few months, and I’m just getting myself situated for the winter. Next month will mark my 11th year of tattooing if I’m doing the math right, I am grateful, tired, and very lucky to be doing the work now that I always wanted to be doing.

This month, I’m making some big changes to my practice with the addition of my new support dog Yama to my day to day. Yama cleared the first step in starting psychiatric service dog training soon, and I will be releasing some original paintings and maybe even some merch to make it all happen on the timeline I’m hoping for.

Thank you to my clients who support my practice, who allow me to push myself, who treat tattooing with the same love and respect I have for it. All I want is to do this for another 12 years and hopefully for much longer ❤️

@mikehooves approached me in 2024 after their first cancer diagnosis. Today I attended their celebration of life virtually. I learned that they had a soft spot for Justice ❤️ When Mike approached me about getting a tattoo I don’t remember exactly how our conversation around design went, I just know that they asked for something protective and I put everything I had into this piece. It was imbued with healing intention, care, respect, protective energy and so much love. From the moment I met Mike, I saw someone who was completely themselves in a time and place that is not easy for people like us. It is not easy to be a queer person in Alberta. It is not easy being a queer person with cancer in Alberta too. They were so gentle and so strong. I could tell. But for people like Mike, ease isn’t more important than freedom and unapologetic authenticity. They touched so many people, they made such meaningful and kind art. I only spent two days with them but they left an indelible mark on me as much as I marked them. I remember them being really sad to lose their hair so the tattoo was a sort of consolation around that process in part. And when their beautiful red hair grew back it got hidden again, just as the best protection isn’t always visible. If ever you wonder if my clients stay with me long after I’ve seen them last, they do. I was so touched by Mike. I never stopped thinking about them after we worked together. It’s not an exaggeration to say that they showed me what kind of tattooer I wanted to be. You made the world brighter and more beautiful. This photo I took of Mike is in the Human Marks book, from the university of Connecticut. I am glad that this reminder of Mike can stay on in print among all the other incredible markers of their legacy. Mike you were the best. It’s so unfair that you’re not here but I know that wherever you are you’re shining brighter than ever. by @la___tigresse____

These two seminars are the only time I’ll be teaching anything, so if this is helpful or interesting to you, this is your chance 🦋please note, there will be no technical tattooing skills taught, this is about composition, flow, large scale body mapping, and stencilling for multi day sessions. Also I am unfortunately not able to offer any online participation, this will be in person only.

The backpiece is healed from 2 years ago, everything was drawn on to fit. I’m booking one last client in Calgary for September, and afterwards I’m booking Oakland for October. My client flew in from Minnesota this week and requested a mehndi sleeve that had vintage influence, specifically with checkerboard pattern and we managed to get the whole arm done in only two sessions of tattooing and one session of drawing. You can also see the kolam backpiece that I did on them in Chicago over two sessions starting about 2/3 years ago, it was a pleasure to see this all healed and settled happily! I’m accepting new clients for 2026 in Oakland and Calgary, I have no other travel plans for the next year.
