I’ve had the pleasure of meeting with this group of women for the last three weeks. All Afghan refugees and all holding knowledge of different frame drumming styles within their home country. This type of frame drumming is passed down between the women of each family, very unique for a drumming tradition. We uncovered shared rhythms and took the time to make frame drums from scratch so they could all take one home to practice. Mind you, they’ve never built drums or worked with calf skin before. Leave it to a group of women to dive into that head first with no hesitation and achieve pretty incredible results! 👏

Most importantly, we were able to create a space for everyone to gather and have a moment for joy and laughter. I learned as much from them as I hope they did from me. We meet again in the spring! And special thanks to Jane Hirshberg at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and Marzia Nazari at Solutions in Hometown Connections for making this happen. 🤍 by @la_floyd

LA Phil! A stellar time playing with this group, made even more special by standing alongside an old dear friend at a high point in their career. Watching Wesley achieve what he has, winning his position with this orchestra, then being able to play beside him while it’s all unfolding? Incredible.

Our eighteen year old undergrad selves would be very glad to know we are still hitting things professionally and still back there making stupid jokes to each other! by @la_floyd

L+C made their Maryland micro wedding completely their own ♥️

From croquet at their cocktail hour (a favorite pastime of the bride’s family) to a custom cookie cart featuring their furry friend 🐈 they wanted their day to feel personal.

And HELLO! Did you see the bride’s dress?! 👀

They didn’t try and replicate someone else’s Pinterest board; they designed a wedding that looked and felt completely their own and we LOVED that about them.

Planning a micro wedding in the DMV or Chicago? We can help! Comment MICRO and we’ll send you our favorite local resources. by @la_floyd
