Rachel and I have begun a week long Orson Welles binge that will result in both of our first visit to the Hearst Castle in San Simeon next Saturday. Welles’ 1947 ‘The Stranger’ a perfect launch 🎥 by @laceman34

Memo to Christopher Nolan: next time you assemble an all-star cast make sure they all fit the world and are telling the same story. Warren Beatty’s 1990 ‘Dick Tracy’ is a masterpiece of genre execution. by @laceman34

“Triumph”an understatement. It’s a shame so many brilliant films get buried as the years roll on when they could be used as valuable, character-building, learning tools in high school and college. Such an important film that was released at the end of a very turbulent decade leading into what became widely considered the decade of excess and corporate greed. If you only saw ‘Norma Rae’ back when it was an underdog phenomenon in 1979, I suggest sitting with it again to appreciate its full power and social significance. Never seen? Why not now. Find it, see it. by @laceman34

Gorgeous must-see film. Simultaneously heartbreaking and heartwarming, tells the story of a stay home mother struggling with her mental health and an offer to return to the career she paused. I feel so grateful when I discover a film like this - so happy they are made. by @laceman34

Forgotten and unappreciated 1993 Walter Hill film about the surrender of Geronimo in 1886. What a cast. Sitting with it yesterday, looking upon Gene Hackman and Robert Duvall sharing the screen together, pure cinema gold. I have always believed Jason Patric was one of the most interesting leading men of his time - definitely left us wanting more from him. Maybe some day. Because Hill studied the greats of the genre (Ford, Peckinpah, Walsh) this film has an authenticity that most “Westerns” fail to achieve. by @laceman34

I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t aware of this actor named Sam Neill who seemingly showed up in consequential films that left a mark on me. Coincidentally, this ‘Dead Calm’ DVD (1989) landed in my hands barely a week ago and I immediately sat and watched it with Rachel. Probably the first time I saw his work was back when this released. Then came the monumental ‘Jurassic Park’ (1993) followed by a haunting performance in ‘The Piano’ (1993). And finally, he delivered a ferocious villain in ‘Peaky Blinders.’ A true artist who will be missed. by @laceman34
