POSTS STORIES REELS
Excited to announce that my first feature-length documentary as a director, THE TWISTER will premiere on NETFLIX March 19th! It’s been a journey finding a unique way into a natural disaster movie, and I am so proud of where we ended up. Our characters are such special people that all tell their stories with authenticity and bravery. Cut by the visionary @nic.zimmermann and made with @rawtvltd where I began my journey in documentary filmmaking. Synopsis: Set against a backdrop of end-of-the-world predictions, this coming-of-age film is told from the perspective of a group of young people growing up in Joplin, Missouri. They encounter the extreme power of Mother Nature when a rare EF-5, monster tornado hits their hometown on high school graduation day. In the fierce 200 mph winds of the twister, they discover the power of their resilience as they fight for survival - each with a transformative story spurred by their experiences of that day. The film features never-before-seen footage that takes us into the eye of the storm. There is a fabulous community behind this film: Kate Townsend, Reva Sharma and the team at Netflix Original Feature Documentaries, Johnny Taylor, @waldrumgeorge , @mux_lewis and Susanne Hamilton at RAW TV. Producer @carlagrandedocs, Line Producer @nomelamb , production manager @__rlp__ Drama Producer @leslielucey_ , DOP @davidvollrath , 1st AD extraordinaire @nate.r.eggert Composer @nickfostermusic , Archive producer @miss__campbell , Assistant Editor @sladana_xo , Colorist Jack Jones, Online Editor @stefhenley_ , Post production sup @ohmerryn , Sarah Sharp and the team at @flyoverfilmstudios , the wizards at @luxaeternavfx , @pictureshop … and many many more folks in the UK and US who brought so much passion, creativity and energy to this! And.. get ready to crank your speakers loud wherever you watch it, because the mad scientist of sound @stevespeedsound had a lot of fun crafting some epic storm sound in Dolby Atmos surround sound. THE TWISTER: Caught In The Storm. Only on Netflix, March 19th. 🌪️ #thetwister #twister #twisters #netflix #netflixmovies #netflixoriginal #tornado #stormchaser #documentary by @lacey_docs
Thrilled to see our film, A TOXIC LOVE STORY shoot to number 1 in the US, the UK and several other countries around the world within 24 hours. Currently global Number 3 and climbing the charts every day, competing with multimillion dollar Netflix movies. The @guardian Lucy Mangan gave it a four star review calling the film a “jaw-dropping return to true-crime form” that “harks back to the early giants of the genre.” Bravo to our whole team and to all of our contributors. @netflix @emmasupple @nomelamb @nate.r.eggert @garrettvandusen #atoxiclovestory #truecrime by @lacey_docs
Thank you @bafta for the nomination and a fabulously inspiring evening. It meant so much to be there! To my fellow directing nominees, @ellemower and BAFTA winner @lieday_ — congratulations ladies, I can’t wait to see what you both cook up next! I thought I would share some of my notes in case I had to make an anxiety filled speech on that stage. Swerved it this time! To Kate and Reva and everyone on our team at @netflixfilm @netflix — thank you for believing in my vision for a film that would look past the storm clouds and focus on teenagers finding themselves in the wreckage. The Twister team has some of the most talented creatives and wonderful humans that I could ever hope to collaborate with. I am a better filmmaker after learning from all of you. Producer Carla, Line Producer @nomelamb , Nia, Rowan, Didem, Siobhan, Klaudia, Sladana and my visionary editor @nic.zimmermann — the care you poured into our characters made the world fall in love with them. @davidvollrath our DOP, @leslielucey_ , @nate.r.eggert , @stefhenley_ , jack and all of the incredible crew at @flyoverfilmstudios & @luxaeternavfx — I am still amazed that we made a tornado happen on a documentary budget (!) Composer @nickfostermusic musical collaboration with sound maestros @stevespeedsound and @tom_maclellan you immersed us in the storm so powerfully. It was such a joy to return to @rawtvltd , where it all began for me! To execs @waldrumgeorge , Jonny, Suzanne, and my friend and mentor @mux_lewis — thank you for weathering the storm with me. This nomination belongs to the people of Joplin, Missouri. And to our brave and brilliant contributors — the heartbeat of this story — Steven, Mac, the Doug’s, Kaylee, Chad & his mom, Cecil, Eric, & Keegan & the Norton family - thank you for trusting us. I had the most amazing time attending @banffmedia festival for the first time in Banff Canada 🇨🇦. I was totally mind blown to take home an award for team Twister in the History & Biography category at the 2026 Rockie Awards. It feels like a real honour to win, with submissions from 45 countries worldwide. I guess this win proves a more commercial, character led approach can still make a strong impact in this genre. This was my first award speech and it all felt like a crazy adrenalin-fuelled dream (I can’t believe I made it through without my emotions getting the best of me!) I gave most of the moment to the powerful words of one of our contributors, @cecil.ryan . Several of the attendees came to me after the ceremony to share how much his message about speaking our truths resonated! Huge congratulations to our talented team behind The Twister, to @netflix , @rawtvltd and to our brave and brilliant contributors on screen. Thank you to all for your support for the project. It’s been a ride! Check out: The Twister: Caught in the Storm - streaming on NETFLIX now! #rockieawards2026 #rockieawards #banffworldmediafestival by @lacey_docs
