I’ve been working and moving around like a wild woman this summer — July 1st marked 7 years of being fully self-employed and on my own (2018). 6 years of murals. 280+ walls in 11states. 1400+ commissions shipped to 40 states and counting 😅🚀 What a ride. Have you ever heard the story about my tiny paper airplane tattoo (and logo mark)? A year after I left the corporate world. I decided to take a 50 day trip to Europe. 10 countries. To my surprise, leading up to my departure, I’d run into to people who’d say “how are you affording this?”. What seemed like a valid and inquisitive question from some, was also balanced with condescending tones from some others. So I made a GoFundme, that I labeled the Freedom FUNd, followed by a cheeky video I shared, and I said I don’t need your money. But if you don’t think I have enough, I am accepting donations. I said I will take any amount of money to do any kind of activity in these 10 countries (within safety of course) and then I will share about it on social media while I’m on my trip. The rule: if your activity costs money, you pay for the activity, and then you give a donation. Some people thought that was embarrassing. The joke was on them. I made close to $1800 doing some pretty cool stuff. One of which was “get a tattoo that embodies your personality and your trip”. So my last stop in Amsterdam, I got the paper airplane. It represented freedom and adventure, my desire for travel and creative nature to make things by hand. Everyone’s process and arsenal is different, but mine starts with a variety of brushes. My go-to’s are @zibrapainting, Royal & Langnickel, and @woosterbrushcompany. I love an angled brush. Then I start with some rough outlines. I usually use paint and a technique I refer to as “dry brushing”. I dip a brush in lightly and keep going until I’m basically scraping any leftover paint onto the wall or canvas. It’s all getting painted over later, so I’m not worried about details, but rather just want the sketch on the wall for spacing. I tend to buy and use all the same paint. @behrpaint is my fav. Welcome to #libraseason — my favorite time of year. Fall. Football. And my birthday 🎉 October 2nd (friday!), I’ll hit a milestone — the big 4-0!! What a gift! 🙌🏼 I celebrated 8 years in business over the summer, I’m taking a trip with 14 of my friends and I’m booked and busy with murals upon return. #blessed 🤌🏼 It’s been a year — all my lows have been my highs — and what a cool lesson that is. I’ve never really had a problem aging, Libras lovvvvve their birthday, so 40 never scared me. But I do hate the number. My “forever age”, as I call it, is 28. Meaning I feel 28 — the fountain of youth over here when it comes to staying up late and being an energizer bunny. I still love to make new friends, to be around loud music, wear colorful outfits, saying *yes* to random adventures, and flirting with strangers….But that is a luxury of being child free and working for yourself. You can do whatever you want. And what I want for my birthday is to be healthy, around my favorite people, in a bikini sipping cold bevies by a pool, and simultaneously, a beach….and the birthday Gods delivered🏝️ #seewhatlaceydoes • 📸 @cmaphoto • #thisis40 by @lacey_does

Going solo doesn’t mean you’ll be alone. In fact, many of my best friends were made by taking a leap of faith and stepping outside my comfort zone 🌍 I spent 50 days in South Africa. 30 of them with @remoteyear — no longer in action — but no worries, you can join @thepangea.app. Make a profile and start to search @pangea.trips for your next adventure. For example — I’m headed to New Zealand for a month in 2027! Once again, I’ll meet strangers who will turn to friends. South Africa is everything I wanted and more. Endless outdoor fun, great people, culture, beautiful landscapes and pretty inexpensive once you get there. I took a direct, 16 hour flight, from Atlanta. Splurged for #deltaone — which honestly was more than the entire 50 days living in SA. That flat lay bed tho helped save me with sleep. No jet lag here! I underestimated myself once again! The truth: I tried to back out of this event…twice. The first was right after the Everest climb in August. I said, “girl you’ve done enough, good for you”. The second was the morning of day two. I was sore, tired and felt defeated. Then the sky opened up and brought lightning with it. We had a rain delay. And then again. It was just what I needed to get my butt up and dressed and back on the mountain. Lesson 1 - there’s always more in the tank. get. out. of bed. just start movingggg Lesson 2 - we can do SO much more than our minds think we can. I had never done 1 marathon, nonetheless 3….consecutively, at altitude, and on a mountain. But I finished. I’ve learned so much about myself from being part of the @29029official community and have @adventureclubready & @jesseitzler to thank for pushing me to do hard things. Lesson 3 - you’re strong enough to do it alone I was by myself for a lot of these miles and found a new confidence in my personal spirit, athleticism and drive that I’ll take with me onto the next one.
