I do not like the myth of Pygmalion, there is no choice, no consent, no time for Galatea (the statue) to learn anything before Pygmalion takes her as a wife.

Not always but I often like taking things I don’t like and reimagining them in ways that I do like. That is my novel: giving a new person choices. My novel is gender swapped. Female artist, male statue. And she doesn’t ask for him. The FMC loves her creation but only as one loves a well done project, not as an object of romance.

I’m working on draft number four. Finally working on the climax scene and it’s a complete rewrite. This draft has been a lot of work, so much scrapped, so much completely rewritten, and the whole thing is so much better.

FREE NEWSLETTER

Because apparently I need more social media, I started a newsletter. In my defense I did already have a Substack account to read other people’s newsletters about their books.

And I’m keeping it monthly for now because that’s all I have the energy for and honestly you probably don’t need too many rants about the amount of editing that I’m about to have to do.

I took this photo and I’m proud of it and so I’m going to show it off. This is an older photo. No, I have very little idea on how I got it so perfect. I did take this on a Canon Rebel digital camera. I’m pretty sure I used a 24mm-105mm lens.

While I did edit it a bit in Lightroom afterwards it was mostly for contrast. I’m a big believer that over editing makes a photo something it isn’t.

These are blossoms on a tree in spring. They are here for such a short time before falling. While they do destroy my allergies, they are still beautiful.

This is not a bookish post or is in maybe in the way that it’s a reminder to go outside and step away from the fantasy worlds we live in. We spent so much time on our phones, we spend so much time distracted that sometimes we need to walk through the grass.

Put the phone down, go outside, touch grass, sit beneath the shade of a tree, pet an animal, please not a wild one. Just because their friend shaped does not mean they’re friendly. And just breathe, take in the quiet, take in the scents of nature.

UNFINISHED BOOK SERIES

By this I mean there should be a next book but as of posting this there is not a next book. And while I am posting this I do completely understand that authors are people, they have stuff happen in their lives that stop them from writing and publishing and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. These are books series that I do hope get finished one day.

Book Series:
The Cinder Spires by Jim Butcher - I know he is working on Dresden Files but I love this series
Tempest & Slaughter by Tamora Pierce - I hope her health improves
Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss - Y’all know why I had to include this one

Honorable mention to the Dresden Files series because it seems never ending.

ARC BOOK REVIEW - The Way of the Salmon Moon

I have been contemplating this review for a while and also might have started listening to the first book in the Rimwalker Series: The Plain of Pillars. I will review that book one once I’ve finished it but I can tell you this, while the part that I’ve heard of the audiobook so far is really good, the author @daniel.firth.griffith really hit his stride writing book three.

No spoiler example: there is a scene early in The Way of the Salmon Moon where the character is overlooking a herd of horses and talking about how the mares are the true rulers of the herd for how they teach and discipline the young. And that is one little aspect of this scene. There are layers.

This book kept me so enthralled. It may not be written in iambic pentameter but this is an epic, there is no doubt. It has taken me a while to figure out how to describe this book without spoilers. It meanders slowly at times but like a river, beautiful and never dull. This book feels like I’m sitting by a fire with a violent snow storm raging outside and I’m listening to a story be told through song. There are moments when I want to flee both the storm and the story but I am too enthralled to move. This book got me annotating again, I read with a pencil in hand. The Way of the Salmon moon is heartbreaking at times while also being so beautiful as to make you weep.

If you want to read a book that will make you think. This is the book for you. If you want a book where you have to actively read and be part of the story. This is the book for you. If you want a book that makes you slow down. This is the book for you. Happy reading.
