7 years ago I moved to LA from Australia as a professional dancer and found myself very lost in life. My agent wasn’t sending me to any auditions & I wasn’t booking any of the jobs I wanted. I eventually stoped going to class & the only dance work I had was in a topless dive bar. I felt alone & creatively & emotionally empty. One day I met someone who painted & encouraged me to try it. I forgot this was something I loved doing as a kid, but my life was dominated by dance. The instant I picked up that paint brush I felt like me again because at the heart of my being, I am a creator. At first it was a way to cope with feeling lost and lonely in another country, but it quickly became an outlet for all the creativity & self expression that had been locked up inside me trying to get out, which is why I wanted to share my artwork with you all today.

I love hearing what my fans have to say about my art!

I made this book for my niece, she’s 3 now so it doesn’t get much use. But now we have a 4 month old who is really into all the shapes & colours. I love watching his little eyes scan the details in each page.

The model in the background (my dad 😜) is also reping one of my fabric designs 🫶🏼

Mixing some of my loves - dancing, being in nature & taking my fabric designs out for a spin!

In a perfect world, this would be my life all rolled into one. I’m still working on new designs, but hey, we all know life can get in the way at times. But these things are always on my mind. I have so many ideas I want to bring to life. Sometimes it’s hard to pick which art form is my favourite. Dancing gives me a language, painting gives me meditation & designing my own fabric prints & clothing designs gives me so much excitement! I love it when they can all come together at once.

ZEBRAMINCO is one of, if not, my favourite pieces. It came about because I was working on multiple zebra designs. It was one of the first ones I drew & loved it, but it was too busy for what I was currently working on, so this sat in a cupboard with lines drawn on for quite a while. When I pulled it out again, I was very unsure what direction I was going to take this in.

It took so long & I loved every minute of it. I loved finding the colours. I love the free form pattern of the zebra stripes, against the precise flower of life circles. And then adding the small 2mm sparkles everywhere.

Sad thing though, I had to leave all of my frames behind in LA when I moved back to Australia. They were just too heavy to ship. So this piece feels naked without her black & white stripes.

When I look at this piece I can feel the meditative state it put me in. Does it have the same affect on you?

I love that my parents like to wear my designs.

This year though, my goal is to actually have my designs made & not just have my fabric designs printed on available styles. All the available styles only go on synthetic fabric & that’s just not me anymore. I’m here for the rompers & beach kaftans, so watch this space!
