The next stop on my library tour while I was in Illinois (state 31) was CPL Chinatown. Two floors. First floor: children's. Second floor: everything else.

I visited four libraries while in Illinois. More than my usual. #indieshopsandlibrarystops taken in Chinatown, Chicago, Illinois by @ladypaperback

I won't be visiting any more new-to-me library locations for the rest of the year. I have a few more to share with you as the week plays itself out but they don't make the list. My Top 10 Favorite Libraries as of 2026 are actually:
1. Boston Public Central Library, Copley Square
2. Hawai'i State Library
3. Silent 3rd - will be awarded by our estate when I 🎲
4. NYPL, The Rose Main Reading Room
5. Library of Congress
6. The City Library, SLC
7. St. Louis Public Library
8. Free Library of Philadelphia
9. Harold Washington Library Center
10. Haven't found her yet

Whenever I visit a new location, I ask myself:
1. Can I write here?
2. Is it quite enough here?/ Can I sit in contemplation?
3. Will I remember this building when I leave here?
4. How am I feeling as I sit here now?

Which location on or off this list is your favorite ?! taken in New York City by @ladypaperback

I finally did it! I visited the largest municipal, public, circulating library in our country. Harold Washington Library Center has been on my list for quite some time. Later this week, I'll share three more libraries that I visited in Illinois. I spent more time in libraries during this trip as I have way too many unread books on my shelves.

It didn't make sense to spend as much time in shops this time but if I return to state 31 it'll be for 1. an arboretum 2. A few shops and 3. Alinea.

The Harold Washington Library Center is 756,640 sq ft at a cost of $144,000,000 at the time of its rebuild ca. 1991. taken in City of Chicago Central Library-Main Branch Harold Washington Library Center by @ladypaperback

Twain said: travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

Last bit from Tennessee is the first book shop that I stopped at, @penningtonsbooks ! Super cute, some seating, and beverages offered. Mostly adult with a separate section for children. Mostly new with a small selection of pre-owned books. I would recommend this shop if you plan on visiting the area. I purchased a book that I will share at a later time! taken in Chattanooga, Tennessee by @ladypaperback

I didn't buy this book for theoretics, I bought it for her story. Author Kerrigan did not disappoint. She's incredibly hilarious, an intelligence that only comes with age and experience.

She's offered her readers vulnerability and relatability packaged in a voice that can only be described as one thing, confident.

As someone who will always be surveying what's offered on the shelves for family and relationships, I can tell you that Let's Fg Date pairs well with a cathartic journey. It doesn't replace therapy and she knows it. Perfect for cis women in heteronormative relationships. Do yourself a favor and read or listen to Let's F💋cking Date: Become the Prize, Enjoy the Ride, and Never Settle Again. Then do yourself another favor and read it twice more.

If you're actively dating, books like this are meant to be read and repeated. I ate it up though, my quickest read of 2026. Book 23/30. Congrats @serenakerrigan , I'm looking forward to your future scripts. taken in New York City by @ladypaperback

Out of respect for the Ryman's policies, I won't share video from inside the theater but it was pretty cool to be there during soundcheck (The Heartbreakers + Chris Stapleton). Nashville was a hoot.

This trip was planned a year before Dolly's death. She is EVERYWHERE and I find her last will and testament to be incredibly powerful. Imagine planning moments for your family, friends, and mass audiences all in advance? Her teams are well equipped to maintain operations and start new ventures. Her posthumous work has already been 🤯

There are three things I learned by traveling to different libraries across the country. They might be obvious to you but these 3 things weren't available in my *hometown library.

1. Libraries also serve as museums and gardens. If you ever get to visit a city's "main branch" you'll find that non-locals are invited in with rooftop terraces, onsite landscaping, and displays about local history. A library preserves historical documents and provides access to larger exhibits. Not all libraries are just quiet reading spaces.
2. Recording studios. You can literally record music, audiobooks, voiceovers, and podcasts at libraries. What ?!
3. Unexpected luxury. Some libraries have cafes and restaurants. You can create a whole tourist stop out of special locations. Rare items. Advanced technology. Beautiful architecture. Music performances. Books for $1.00!

Beyond book clubs and author readings, you can truly tap into a myriad of interests with just one stop. I love going to libraries.

They give me a sense of local culture. Now where does this one fall on my top 10? 😏 Four stories; I chose not to record on the floor for adolescents.

Happy Autumn! Cheers to independent book shops and library stops – more coming from my visit to state 30, and getting to say goodbye to Summer down at @parnassusbooks was fantastic. I can tell they host lovely events. The space serves as a beautiful backdrop to literary discussions. I picked up a poetry collection and will share that once I get started. taken in Parnassus Books by @ladypaperback
