hii, my name is zachary, i am the principal photographer at LA FLECHA, LLC.

if you’ve been here from the beginning—so. much. has. changed.

1 - i set this space aside to become intimate with my internal landscape. led by the ancient practice of yoga and my beloved IFS therapist, i found the courage to trust my essence.

2 - we are officially an LLC.

3 - we are slowly rebranding to fulfill a clear future. welcome to the EMBODIED VISUAL ARCHIVE.

4 - we are unwavering about our audience — we exist for the outliers and leaders, the conscious brands, and the queer experience.

5 - we will always hold space for any moment between the mundane and the remarkable.

one of the fundamental lessons of creating is crafting a critique. in the silos of our followers and the ai algorithms that determine whether something deserves to be seen, it’s easy to lose sight of an impactful critique. we replaced the role of the honest, meaningful critic with the amount of likes, comments, shares. and then internally bully ourselves when our post didn’t perform well.

im starting a new series where i trade aesthetic in for authentic conversation. i will be diving into some of my own work and sharing an artful critique with you.

a good critique contains 3 things: a statement, a question, and an explanation.

a statement: start off with a sentence about first impressions of the piece. this really sets the tone of the conversation. try to connect to the piece on a personal level. how does this piece make you feel from the first pass?

a question: ask the artist a question, instead of jumping to conclusions, if something feels off, out of place, or inconclusive, ask the artist a question. understand motive. i’m convinced that every misplaced stroke or poorly lit image can be intentional if there is a motive to support the choice. asking a question about the piece invites you into the artists worldview. once you understand motive, then share how the artist choice achieved or distracted from the original intention.

an exclamation: finally, we end with an exclamation. what lingers with you when you step away from this piece? how does this artists worldview impact you? what moved you most about the art piece?
