Fall, is that you, playa?! Because this crisp air is my vibe!

I know it’s been crickets over here lately, so here’s a little update!

I recently celebrated my 41st birthday, and as always, I love commemorating each trip around the sun by capturing myself as I close one chapter and welcome the next.

My first weekend of Christmas minis is officially in the books, and I’m looking forward to my upcoming sessions! I can’t wait to share all the beautiful families I’m capturing this holiday season!

one of the fundamental lessons of creating is crafting a critique. in the silos of our followers and the ai algorithms that determine whether something deserves to be seen, it’s easy to lose sight of an impactful critique. we replaced the role of the honest, meaningful critic with the amount of likes, comments, shares. and then internally bully ourselves when our post didn’t perform well.

im starting a new series where i trade aesthetic in for authentic conversation. i will be diving into some of my own work and sharing an artful critique with you.

a good critique contains 3 things: a statement, a question, and an explanation.

a statement: start off with a sentence about first impressions of the piece. this really sets the tone of the conversation. try to connect to the piece on a personal level. how does this piece make you feel from the first pass?

a question: ask the artist a question, instead of jumping to conclusions, if something feels off, out of place, or inconclusive, ask the artist a question. understand motive. i’m convinced that every misplaced stroke or poorly lit image can be intentional if there is a motive to support the choice. asking a question about the piece invites you into the artists worldview. once you understand motive, then share how the artist choice achieved or distracted from the original intention.

an exclamation: finally, we end with an exclamation. what lingers with you when you step away from this piece? how does this artists worldview impact you? what moved you most about the art piece?

2 days —> married
and I’m honestly just feeling…
good. balanced, grounded, wise. looking back and clocking all the little breadcrumbs I followed, and my own intuition I heeded to get here. gratitude

I do have to say ya’ll: stay open. I resisted him at first because there were a few boxes he checked that were on my “no” list; nothing serious, just silly little preference things I thought I knew about myself. sometimes Great Spirit/God knows best, and sometimes we get real attached to old stories/identities that are ready to be done and dusted. and damn, I’m glad I didn’t cling and miss this 🩵 and glad he was/is the stubborn and patient type lol

Just celebrated my 40th birthday this past Monday and finally getting back into the flow after two back-to-back trips to celebrate! 🥳

I originally planned to commemorate this milestone by photographing myself, but I’m so grateful for Zachary for stepping in and capturing my vision so beautifully — I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Truly, so in love with these images.

Now that I’m coming down from my 40th high, I’m rolling right into the holiday season — and I couldn’t be more excited for Christmas Minis!
