Just Announced | @laforceband joins as the opening act for @patrickwatsonofficial’s upcoming performance at Royal Botanical Gardens Friday, September 25.

La Force is the mesmerizing solo project of Ariel Engle, who has spent more than a decade as one of Canada’s most sought-after musical collaborators. Born and based in Montreal, Engle’s experience reaches from Broken Social Scene’s indie rock to Québecois pop and the experimental avant-garde, culminating in her first two solo records, 2018’s La Force, and the astonishing XO SKELETON, out now.

XO Skeleton is the supple, steady, uncanny new album by La Force: a mixture of haunted pop and hot-blooded R&B that glistens at the meeting-point between life, death and love. La Force’s music is electric + vivid, and also tactile + grimy—a sound that enfolds influences as disparate as Tirzah, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Jazmine Sullivan, the Cocteau Twins, Mica Levi, Tricky w/ Marina Topley-Bird, and even Joni Mitchell’s “Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter.”

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT ✨ LA FORCE

Three records in, Ariel Engle says: “@laforce is my baby.” The singer-songwriter is a frequent @patrickwatsonmusic collaborator, a member of Broken Social Scene and a previous magic maker with folks like Feist, Aaron Dessner, Bon Iver and Efrim Manuel Menuck of Godspeed You! Black Emperor (just to name a few). Over the years, the long list Polaris Prize nominated vocalist has garnered the attention from the likes of Stereogum, Mojo, Nylon, and BBC6 with ethereal tunes draped in the singular vocal prowess that separates La Force from the rest.

We’re so excited she can join us for our anniversary celebrations this September (the month that starts tomorrow btw) and we * might * also be excited for some new (gasp) music from her * maybe * some time in the near future….! ❤️

We can’t believe it’s already been a month, since the release of @laforceband and @unessential_0ils cover of @chrisisaak iconic song Wicked Game.Ariel’s haunting vocals are intimate and magnetic, while Warren’s production leans into a tense atmosphere, making this a timeless reinterpretation of the song’s inherent sensuality.🤍✨ by @laforceband
