A week ago, I had the fortune of experiencing one of the most meaningful musical experiences of my life. In this shared presence of People, the mutual exchange of ideas and the interplay of sounds, melodies, resonances, energies and frequencies create a unique and singular experience.
A gathering where the People and the music become the key elements in this very special space. This shared experience ignites sparks and brings light to the hearts of everyone present. And in this space, we encounter others and hidden parts of ourselves. We feel understood and know that we have arrived at a secure, peaceful and magical place. We listened and allowed the otherworldly sounds to unfold their full effect.
This is exactly what our ears are made for.

I hope I can fully appreciate how much effort, work and consideration went into this whole festival. The new arrangements, the rehearsals, the years of practice, the extensive organization, and of course the new creations we had the pleasure of hearing.
It all seems like a gigantic hyper-organism, made of music and artistic expression.
I’m infinitely grateful for every moment and for all the People who participated and were a part of this shared presence. It was a dream, it was a fever dream, it was a dream come true. It was an ideal reality in which I would love to live every day, forever.
I’m eternally grateful to you for your voices, your music, your angelic spirits and this deep sense of human connection.
People and this shared experience is everything we really have here on this planet.

Maybe the only way to truly convey the infinite significance of this festival is through music. It will always be a very special source of inspiration.
"This one requires a little score" 🫶🫂🌈🎶

To try and sum up all the feelings and experiences and connections and friendships and music and movement and love from our week at @peoplefestivalberlin would be futile. But here are some snapshots of some of the people and moments that made it so special and that will doubtlessly keep us returning for as long as they’ll have us. Once again, a HUGE thank you to @hicksonmary, @michelbergerhotel, Tom and Nadine and Josh and all the folks that made it possible behind the scenes and up front. Unforgettable ❤️❤️

Had some solid hangs with Efrim Menuck (@efrimmanuelmenuck) at @peoplefestivalberlin last week. A number of us MPLS folks got to expound on seeing Godspeed You! Black Emperor on March 20th, 2003, the night the USA began bombing Iraq. A show that has been lodged in our bones ever since. Loved getting drenched in the sounds made with the great @laforceband in the Light Room on Sunday.

Special guest announcement 📣

Fellow Canadian La Force will join Patrick Watson on all dates of his first Australian shows in over a decade!

La Force is the solo project of Ariel Engle, one of Canada’s most sought-after collaborators. Her Polaris Prize long-listed debut caught the attention of The National’s Aaron Dessner, who recruited her for Big Red Machine’s 2021 LP alongside Bon Iver, Taylor Swift and Fleet Foxes.

The pair last teamed up on ‘Height of the Feeling’ from Patrick’s 2022 album Better in the Shade. This November, you can catch two of Canada’s most brilliant acts live on one stage.
