POSTS STORIES REELS

End of summer, a change of light, out and about. by @lagasa

For the past year I’ve been running design classes for kids from home. We make all sorts of things big and small. This past week we worked on mobiles. As usual the kids sketch their ideas first. For this project they were the client and their challenge was to create a cohesive grouping—a collection of images that dangle and twirl together telling a story or conveying a theme.

They had fun ideas from NY pizza rats, to nature, monsters, and even a dinner plate. They cut and painted, and together we figured out how to balance everything.

In a few weeks we’ll move these sessions to our studio space in Boerum Hill when @protototodesignlab opens. We’ll have more room to play, build, and test ideas. And I’ll do my best to bring over the same comfort we had at home—getting to create over tea and croissants, green grapes and impromptu dances.

@snohetta’s new office in Dumbo continues to be filled with beautiful and inspiring models, poetic material samples, smart furniture design, welcoming people, and they gained more light and a fantastic view.

We toured their old office last summer with @protototodesignlab and now I can’t wait to bring the kids back this summer. It’s truly a dream. The depht and thoughtfulness of their work leaves consistently awestruck.

Goodbye winter! Your time here is done. Multiple snow storms, great. We lit candles, drank tea, went sledding on box lids, thank you, your is done. Officially looking for signs of spring now. The puffy coats needs a rest.

A silly video of two years of waiting for the elevator. Starting in May 2024: two springs, two summers, two autumns, and two winters. (Better with the sound on!)

Managed to make holiday cards again this year. Linoleum block print, two colors. I wish I’d captured the process a little better, but I’ve included my inspiration, a Dutch children’s book from 1961 titled: A Thousand and One Laughs. I have no idea where I found the image, but I’ve had it saved for a decade. It makes me think of friendship and having a good convo. The style makes me think of Paul Rand.

Making mental note to experiment more with cut paper in 2026…and to seek more silliness, more frienship, and laughter.

The making of our KPop Demon Hunters Halloween! 👹🐦‍⬛ My little one was Sussie the magpie using black posterboard, and I was one of flight attendant demons from the start of the film using paper mache. Both costumes did require a ton of hot glue gun. My mask was still a little wet and I think I burned my fingers a few times, but it was worth it.

We met friends from @38ptabrooklyn on Dean and Pacific Street in Boerum Hill for candy, hot dogs and wholesome cuteness, meeting many Rumis along the way.

While waiting to secure a commercial lease for @protototodesignlab I’ve been running a weekly design club and school-holiday camps at home. Whether we’re doing 2D or 3D design challenges we always sketch first, and we discuss who is it for (audience/client) and our intention. It’s never more than 6 kids and we always make space for play, friendship and lots of snacks.

Our little dog, Pickles, is always seated by someone’s foot. We listen to music and tell silly stories while working, just like in any good studio.

Visited #ArtOnPaper2025 and loved seeing work by @iamroseblake, @remstudio_telluride, and @iam_daveeggers / @electricworks The artists books in the BookSmart section in partnership with @centerforbookarts were enough to make the visit to Pier 36 worth it.

-Rose Blake also illustrated the books Great Exhibition and Meet the Artist: David Hockney @iamroseblake, represented by @rebeccahossackartgallery

-Rebecca Messier’s threads on paper were stunning, beautiful, delicate and tactile, in the vein of Agnes Martin @remstudio_telluride represented by @fringegallerytelluride

-Miniature pop up book by Lauren Simkin Berke @lsberke

-Other artist books from the Center for Book Arts’s table @centerforbookarts

(Not pictured, but very charming: Linda Hanauer’s artist books @lindahanauerhandmade)
