It’s Christmas Eve, and before things get busy, we just wanted to say thank you.

To everyone who supported us this year from buying wine, coming to tastings and blind tastings, stopping into the shop, ordering from our Etsy clothing store, or picking up The Storyteller and the Sage, we’re really grateful.

When we first opened, we hoped to feel part of the neighborhood. We didn’t expect to feel welcomed into your lives. That part has meant more to us than we can put into words.

We’re lucky to be part of your dinners, gifts, celebrations, and quiet nights at home. And we’re excited to keep doing this with you for many years to come.

Our Wednesday Blind Wine Challenge was the 2023 Monte Rio Old Vine Zinfandel from Lodi.

Not your typical big, jammy Zin. This one is fresh and lively, with dark berries, pepper, spice and great acidity.

Last Wednesday’s Blind Wine Challenge took us to the Southern Rhône with the 2022 Domaine Cros de Romet Cairanne from Alain Boisson.

Cairanne may not have the name recognition of Châteauneuf du Pape or Gigondas, but that is part of what makes it such a great blind tasting wine. This is classic Rhône, with ripe dark fruit, dried herbs, peppery spice, and a warm, savory character that keeps you coming back to the glass.

Could you place it blind? More importantly, would you drink it again?

Hot days, cool nights. Three bottles for the last stretch of summer.

Domaine Le Capitaine, Vouvray “Les Aumônes”
Dry Chenin Blanc from the Loire. Quince, honeycomb, and a chalky snap on the finish. Ice cold on a sticky afternoon, it’s the answer.

Valle dell’Acate “BDN,” Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico
Sicily’s only DOCG, a blend of Nero d’Avola and Frappato. Wild cherry, dried herbs, and a bright lift. Give it 20 minutes in the fridge and it’s the perfect red for a warm rooftop evening.

Lamé Delisle Boucard, Bourgueil “Prestige”
Old vine Cabernet Franc from one of the Loire’s great traditional houses. Graphite, blackcurrant, crushed leaves. Chill it slightly for the heat, or pour it as is once the night turns cool.

Yes, all three can be chilled. All three on the shelf now. Come by, or reply and we’ll set them aside for you.
