A great visit to Rose & Arrow with Felipe and the whole team behind the wine.
We talked about what it takes to make great wine: knowledge, experience, understanding the soil and the place, and then being ready to adapt. Weather changes, unexpected challenges, last-minute decisions during harvest… sometimes you simply have to adjust the plan.
It made me think a lot about fencing.

We prepare, we train, and experience gives us a foundation. But when the moment comes, we have to read what is happening and adapt. And coaching is very similar. You can teach, explain, and repeat things many times, without knowing exactly when something will finally click for that particular fencer.
Just like wine, sometimes the results take years to show.

Every vineyard is different. Every fencer is different. There is science, there is experience, and there is also a lot of adaptation.
That’s part of what makes both so interesting.

There is one constant to Rose & Arrow -- Felipe Ramirez. Once a wunderkind - A decade in the dirt later - he stands firmly as one of Americas top winemakers. The acccolades are rolling in but he remains true. What an incredible treat to revisit this entire body of work with true lovers of wine. The next ten promise to be even greater. Epic night.

We are deeply honored that our 2023 Touchstone Pinot Noir was awarded 100 points by Courtney Humiston of James Suckling.

This recognition represents far more than a single vintage. It reflects years of dedication to understanding the terroir of the Willamette Valley, from the geology beneath the vines to the countless decisions made throughout each growing season and harvest.
