Today was so epic!

On a sad offshore reef in the southern Swains that has been decimated but storms and COTS. A small amount of recruitment for the coral and a few fish here and there. There were small clicks in the water and then out of the blue came a beautiful pod of Melon-headed whales (Peponocephala electra). These whales are not rare and are listed as ‘least concern’ on the IUCN Red List however they are rare to encounter as they prefer deep offshore tropical and subtropical waters.

Such a wicked experience.
