From October 8–10, we welcomed civic leaders, designers, practitioners, and community partners to Columbus, Indiana, for Prove It: A National Summit on Design Excellence as Civic Practice.

The Prove It Summit wouldn't have been possible without the generous support and collaboration of our partners, especially the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and the the Indiana Arts Commission (@inartscomm). Together with the State of Indiana, the Summit launched the Indiana Quality of Place Learning Partnership, an initiative that will continue evolving over the next two years.

The Prove It Summit Keynote was supported by Visit Columbus (@visitcolumbusin) and The City of Columbus, Indiana.

We are grateful to our speakers, participating communities, program committee, sponsors, volunteers, and everyone who contributed their time, knowledge, and energy to making this gathering possible.

Today, Columbus welcomes delegations from Michigan City, Muncie, Rushville, and Terre Haute as we launch the Indiana Quality of Place Learning Partnership together.

Columbus is a city of about 50,000 people in south-central Indiana. It has more than sixty buildings and public spaces of international design distinction, including work by Eero Saarinen and I.M. Pei. For more than eighty years, this community has treated design as a civic practice. Over the next three days, we'll test what Columbus has learned alongside four partner cities and a national design faculty.

Tonight, the Summit opens with a free public keynote featuring Maurice Cox and Courtney Spearman, with remarks from U.S. Senator Todd Young. There's still time to join us. Reserve your free seat at the link in our bio.

Next week, five Indiana cities come to Columbus to launch the Indiana Quality of Place Learning Partnership. Over the coming days, we're introducing each one, starting with Muncie.

Muncie, in east-central Indiana, is home to about 65,000 people and Ball State University. The Walnut Street Historic District and the Carnegie Library anchor a downtown economy that is shifting toward health care, education, and retail.

We're glad to have Muncie at the table!

Last week, we led downtown tours for students from CSA New Tech High School as part of their American Dreams project.

Education is central to Landmark Columbus Foundation's work. We love to create opportunities for young people to understand how design and civic processes shape their community. Watching students connect history, place, and design in real time is exactly why this work matters.

One of the ways our team learns together is by getting out of the office and experiencing other cities and landscapes. Last month, the Landmark Columbus team spent the day in Madison, Indiana, exploring its historic downtown and meeting some of the people who care for and shape it. We went on a trolley tour, learned about the music scene, walked the riverfront, and ate sliders at lunch. We had a great time! These visits give us a chance to see how other communities approach their work and bring new energy back with us.
