unbelievable. 💔 Mickey had the biggest heart of gold and was glowing with life & love only weeks ago when i took this photo 8.23.26 at JEB3 memorial . (that i had been planning to post next before i heard the news.) he had just given me a most transformative hug & happy sharing about his family, gracing us with his warm & REAL spirit. truly one of the GREATS. another devastating loss. much love MIC-E🕊️🕊️🕊️

Larger than life and he never knew it...he leaves behind a hole we must fill with stronger shared love bondo! 💕💕

James lived every day with the same passion. To create, to help others & to be a part of DIY projects wherever they might be. I watched him assemble this bucket full of tools with such zest, proudly put his JEB3 initials on each tool and draw his little Sperm face on the bucket. 😭 Life is VOID without him in it. 💔 by @landofpop

In loving memory of Sperm, James E. Broderick III. 🖤

It’s hard to put into words what a loss like this feels like. James was funny, sweet, and left a very real mark on the skate community and on the people who knew him.

@landofpop sent me a bunch of footage captured of James over the years so I put this edit together with a lot of love and care. A lot of laughs and a lot of tears.

There’s so much that could be said about someone’s life, but sometimes the footage says it better than words can.

We’ve also created a website to start building a special place for James, thanks to the homie @rainmanmcmillin who generously volunteered his expertise, we got one going at www.jeb3diy.com

James Broderick Celebration of Life 🕊️
11AM Sunday 8/23 Laurelhurst Park, Portland, OR.

A gathering of shared love, memories & stories to honor the man, the myth, legend & spirit of Sperm. ✨🌟✨ Light refreshments will be avail. Feel free to bring an easy picnic style contribution or your own NA beverages as we respect the parks no alcohol policy & what would have been James 11 years sober & 44th birthday. There is limited seating but lots of grass. Bring a chair if desired :) Picnic Area F in NE area of park with closest parking along SE Ankeny St off Cesar Chavez...enter by center bathroom paved path.

To commemorate James’ dedication & love for bridge DIY, an OFY! Memorial Skate for Sperm will also take place at the following parks he laid a hand in 2-5PM in each time zone ::

Funeral services for James Edward Broderick the Third JEBIII, the one and only Sperm, will be as follows:

Tuesday, July 21st - 10 AM Funeral service at Saint Margaret’s Church in Spring Lake, NJ followed by burial at St. Catharine’s Cemetery in Sea Girt, NJ Keep posted for a memorial skate session held simultaneously at FDR, Washington Street, Burnside, and National DIY to honor his memory and to keep living this life that the companies, Olympic judges, cops, and most parents will never understand. I met all my best friends riding skateboards under bridges, in empty swimming pools (like Q man said), or in the streets. Come keep the fire burning. How do I wrap it up? Every story needs an ending, and I consider myself a professional storyteller now, as I narrate U.S. and World History for teenagers trying to figure out the world. This story can’t end, just no way. Going through my boxes at the beginning of teacher summer has been majorly therapeutic for me. And I’m so glad we have so many memories. History is a game of perspectives based on sources. It’s undeniable that Sperm James Edward Broderick the Third was anything but a true original who made this insane world a better place. I never had a person close to me die this way, so suddenly, without warning. My dad was the closest; he died young too, but I knew it was coming. Junk had a lifelong hold on him. He was very open about it. We ate steaks at the Acropolis and he told me about his withdrawal symptoms, how much he struggled. James was different. We know he struggled with his traumatic brain injury. He worked to manage it everyday. Autumn is the hero of this story. She fought for him and made his life 10,000% better. He had finally reached a stage where he had a stable home. He had his little apartment, brain injury support group, and his daily commute was to Burnside. I was finally not worried for him the way I had used to be. He loved so many of you, he would get hyped and talk about seeing you guys or talking on the phone with you. I used to tell him when he was fucking up. When he got home and was having seizures after drinking I told him one time dude, I’ll be here for you no matter what, whether I’m by your side or carrying your coffin. But man I’d much rather you be alive. He was out of that phase. He hadn’t drank in years. He even quit smoking cigarettes. I was so proud of him, relieved, and happy he made it to this scene in his life. That’s why this is so cruel. What’s next? Religion, myth, and storytelling, have always gave humanity hope. It’s on me to be the best husband, father, and teacher I can be. It’s up to me to keep rolling, and grinding coping, and not complain about how sore my middle-aged body is. I’ll savor every pork roll egg and cheese and think about how much he loved this New Jersey gut puncher. We’re talking about a simul by @landofpop
