Looking out from inside Santa Elena Canyon at sunrise. An older photo, but still probably one of my favorites I’ve ever taken, along with a few other snaps from one of my favorite places on earth. The entire Big Bend region is mystical and magical, there’s truly nowhere else like it.

It’s heartbreaking to see what’s happening there now. Right where the fog is rolling, bulldozers are currently clearing the way for an unnecessary “border surveillance” road and barrier in an area with virtually no illegal border activity. Every environmental and historical protection has been waived, public land is being torn apart with our tax dollars, and there’s been little to no transparency about the scope or impact of the project (surprise surprise).

Meanwhile, billion-dollar no-bid contracts are being handed to private construction companies, while one of the most beautiful and remote places in the country pays the price.

Please follow @nobigbendwall and help defend Big Bend.

The full letterpress drawer series of spreads created for @howlerbros and featured in @surfersjournal issues 34.5, 34.6, 35.1, and 35.2.

Each spread is very different, but still very much the same, tied together through a consistent theme of “Howlery” discoverables: misc ephemera, fabric swatches, patches, letterpress type blocks, plants, gummy bears, and 100-year-old @hamiltonwoodtype printer’s drawers. I think this series definitely tapped into my childhood love of I Spy books, and super fun seeing the whole thing lined up together. 🤙

Hill Country Discovery. A little textile pattern that didn’t make the cut. Think it would make for a sweet rug though!

Over the past couple years, I’ve designed some fun Howler Brothers spreads for Surfer’s Journal – but have to say, this latest @howlerbros spread, might be my fave. A single photo of a letterpress type drawer filled with “Howlery” discoverables, featured in the newest issue (13.2) of @surfersjournal

Keep an eye out for the next few Surfer’s Journal issues as the letterpress drawer series continues.

Thank you to @carterblackwell for help with the primary photo magic and thank you to @chrisgreentakespictures for help with the stop-motion photo magic. ✨
