Syzygy (SIZ-uh-jee) my new album comes out on October 30th and a lot of people have been asking me the meaning of the title. Well it most commonly refers to a straight line configuration of celestial bodies, such as an eclipse for example. It also has meanings in psychology, philosophy and spirituality where broadly speaking it means a state of balance between opposing or complementary forces bringing about a harmonious union. On my album, amongst other things, it speaks to a meeting of musical minds in the duets between myself and @alcyona_mick. We spent a day together recording a series of unrehearsed, spontaneous improvisations and exploring the magical acoustics of SJE Arts in Oxford. Here’s a little taste of what we got up to on the day. by @langley_noel

I’ve finally got round to finishing my second album, just 12 years after Edentide! On October the 30th Syzygy will be released into the world. Featuring the amazing piano playing of my good friend @alcyona_mick and a collection of very wonderful ancient instruments. Keep your eyes peeled for more info over the next couple of weeks 🐚 🎺 🙏 by @langley_noel

I’ve been so moved over the last couple of days to see the overwhelming outpouring of love for this beautiful man. More than simply an outstanding musician he was a mentor and an inspiration to a whole generation of young players who knew him as Uncle Harry. To me he was my musical brother, kind, generous, passionate and witty. I’ve played alongside him (or behind him) in countless big band projects but my fondest memories come from the times when Harry invited me to record with Ray Carless in his horn section playing the perfect arrangements he crafted for Adele, Massive Attack, John Legend and even Tom Jones to name just a few. An intensely private person - he didn’t make a song and dance about these achievements but I know he was loved and respected by the artists and producers we worked with - his qualities as a humble human and musician made him a joy to be around. I’m sad to say that I can’t remember the last time our paths crossed but I believe he knew I loved him too.
RIP Harry - you have left a great hole in all our lives ❤️ by @langley_noel
