I didn’t see this coming, but I think you’ll agree it’s been turned into something good.

Breaking my back was the worst thing that ever happened to me. I had to dig deep not to be consumed by despair.

But this journey, of turning toward purpose and trying to help others, saved me.

This is a small glimpse into the genesis of Adaptdefy and LapStacker, which is now helping people in over 40 countries regain a bit of freedom and independence.

There was no good solution for carrying things from my wheelchair, so Tim Cox and I built one.

If you’ve been through something hard, and you’re wondering what to do next…

Try making something better, not just for you, but for someone or something else - even in a small way.

Because if we all do that, the ripple effect could be epic.

I owe LapStacker an apology. Turns out the problem wasn’t the product… it was me installing the damn thing wrong. 😂

Now that I’ve got it mounted properly, I love it. It keeps boxes, laundry, groceries and whatever else I’m hauling locked down on my lap while still leaving both hands free to push my chair.

Three years in a wheelchair and apparently I’m still learning new tricks.

My business partner Tim Cox recently turned 40, and it made me realise something: we met 10 years ago! 🎉

A decade of building a partnership, testing ideas and not giving up, all to find a product that genuinely makes a difference. That product is LapStacker, and I use it every single day.

I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way. It’s been a long journey, and I couldn’t be happier that Tim and I teamed up to make it happen.

Carrying things on your lap from a wheelchair shouldn’t be a balancing act. That’s exactly what LapStacker was made for

The most type B person there ever was 😅. Life with a toddler, a spinal cord injury and just a generally hectic brain is quite the chaos 24/7.

My days are made slightly less chaotic by using the @lapstacker 🙏✨️

Carrying your stuff shouldn’t cost you your independence.

Coffee runs. Crosswalks. Work commutes. Weekend errands. LapStacker holds your bag, your groceries, your laundry, so your hands stay free and your day stays yours.

Built for manual, power, and folding frame chairs. Magnetic buckles, finger loops, a smooth pull-and-clip system, engineered for real life.

It holds steady on slopes, curbs, and uneven ground, so you’re not juggling bags and pushing wheels at the same time. Less energy spent balancing, more energy spent living.

Wheelchair users around the world already call it essential.

Reel description.
A montage of wheelchair users demonstrating LapStacker in daily life: carrying a laundry basket, folding a manual chair, clipping straps onto a folding-frame power chair, wheeling a box of groceries through a kitchen, rolling down a sidewalk with a bag secured on the lap, unloading groceries at a checkout, packing a bag at an airport, and unboxing a LapStacker unit. On-screen text lists each benefit (independence, fits your chair, secure design, saves energy, trusted by real users, built to last, travel-ready). The reel closes with a child in a wheelchair adjusting a doll, on-screen text reading “because thriving isn’t ___”, then the LapStacker logo on a black screen with the tagline “Zip. Clip. Recently we have been spending time on our little patch of land and setting up a space on our little girl to play and hang out outdoors 🌳😁, usually I would need a lot of help moving things on bumpy ground, especially the big things! Because they always used to fall 🙈

But I've been using the Lapstacker to secure things on my knee and I'm honestly so impressed, it's given me so much more independence and really helped me to get stuck in and help more, which I love! 😁

3 things every LapStacker owner needs to know. 👇

Last week, long-time customer Gem shared her top tip for looking after her LapStacker. Today, Mike is sharing 3 top tips to help keep your LapStacker working for you, for years to come.

  1. Don’t over-tighten the adjustment straps
Never lift your wheelchair by the tension straps
Take care when transferring, making sure not to lean or sit on the buckles.

Got a care tip of your own? Drop it in the comments

Gem’s been a LapStacker for years. This is the one thing she’d tell every new owner.

“When using LapStacker, it’s often easy to just pull the straps and let them retract back without control, I know. I’m completely guilty of doing this at the beginning. But my top tip would be to glide them back to the retractor. This keeps the buckles protected from being smashed back and weakened over time. So remember to glide them back slowly.”
