I didn’t see this coming, but I think you’ll agree it’s been turned into something good.

Breaking my back was the worst thing that ever happened to me, and I had to fight hard not to be swallowed by despair.

But turning toward purpose and trying to help others saved me.

This is a glimpse into the genesis of Adaptdefy and the LapStacker, a product born out of necessity, now helping wheelchair users in over 40 countries reclaim a bit of freedom and independence.

There was no good way to carry things on my wheelchair, so Tim Cox and I built one.

If you’ve been through something hard and you’re not sure what to do next, try this:

Make something better, not just for yourself but for someone else. Even in a small way.

Because small actions done with purpose can create a ripple effect that’s massive.

‼️Don’t do this! 🤣

Wheelchair royalty Dan Kotter aka @thewheelchairdad was gifted a LapStacker Flex by his incredible wife Andrea. She wasn’t anticipating this though! 😂

LapStacker is not a device to capture your spouse, but what you do in your own home is none of our business 😜

Check out their YouTube channel for the full video where they dive deeper into LapStacker.

Andrea had this to say:

“As the wife of someone who uses a wheelchair, I am ALWAYS on the lookout for products that make Dan’s life easier. I legit cried when I saw this. Dan is CONSTANTLY getting frustrated trying to stack things on his lap and dropping everything all over the place as he goes. I KNEW this would be a game-changer!”

I read a couple of articles that said lengthening your shoulders is really good for them. So I made a rig that I can weight-bear.

Before my injury, I did a lot of rock climbing, so I know how to set this up with the right equipment. I used some rope and carabiners from my rock climbing days, and anchored it to a structural beam.

The bottom baris low enough to reach from my chair.
The middle baris the step up.
The top baris where I hang from.

I grab the lower bars and hoist myself up hand over hand until I can reach the top bar and hang free. When I’m done, I work my way back down the bars and lower myself onto my wheelchair.

This is part of our shoulder health series for wheelchair users: strengthen, protect and recover.

Comment “HEALTH”, and we’ll send you our full blog on dead hangs along with its benefits, FAQ’s and who this could be suitable for.

After my high transfers video, a lot of you asked about my shoulders. Fair question. I lift my whole body with them every day, then push thousands of strokes on top of that. So here are the four moves I do to keep them strong and healthy.

Pushing builds the front of your shoulders. These four exercises build the back. That balance is what keeps them working in the long term.

Seated rows
Pull downs
One-arm dumbbell rows
Broom Streach

This is part of our shoulder health series for wheelchair users: strengthen, protect and recover.

Comment “HEALTH” and we’ll send you our full blog series on neck and shoulder care.

Gem from team Adaptdefy tests out our underseat bag for folding wheelchairs. This is how she found it.

I’m stoked with my new @adaptdefy underseat bag, especially designed for folding frames. It comes in two sizes, and I’m using size small. Don’t let that fool you. The capacity is huge.

Honestly, I couldn’t believe how much I could fit in here, and how much weight it could hold,

Ipad
350g bar of chocolate
bose headphones
1lt water bottle
250mil can of soda
1lt milk
 400g tin

I owe LapStacker an apology. Turns out the problem wasn’t the product… it was me installing the damn thing wrong. 😂

Now that I’ve got it mounted properly, I love it. It keeps boxes, laundry, groceries and whatever else I’m hauling locked down on my lap while still leaving both hands free to push my chair.

Three years in a wheelchair and apparently I’m still learning new tricks.

He’s flown a paramotor. In a wheelchair. 🪂

Community Spotlight: Meet Carlos

From Waukegan, Illinois, and still repping his hometown. Carlos found adaptive sports at a @Glasa_sports Christmas party. These days he’s all about the adrenaline: WCMX, paramotoring, zip lining.
Paramotoring and zip lining are the moments he’s proudest of, and honestly? We get why.

Next up: a ride-along in a Lamborghini Huracán this October 🏎️

What keeps him going on the hard days is simple: family and friends. His message to anyone new to life in a wheelchair:
“Just keep moving forward. Just ‘cause you’re in a wheelchair doesn’t mean nothing. Conquer your fears, you got this.”

One of the most frustrating things about a folding wheelchair? Most underseat bags and attachments just don’t work with it.

So I’m stoked with my new @adaptdefy underseat bag, designed specifically for folding frames. It comes in two sizes and I’m using the small, but don’t let that fool you: the capacity is huge.

Follow along, because I’m about to show you exactly how much I can fit in here 👀

Three power add-ons. Three very different jobs 👇

 SmartDrive
A small power wheel that clips onto my axle and pushes from behind. My local town is hilly, so this is my go-to for short trips in.

FreeWheel
A 12-inch wheel that attaches to my footplate and lifts my castors off the ground. Grass, gravel, woodland, it makes rough ground so much easier. Bonus workout included.

Bowhead
A three-wheeled power trike that gets me places my wheelchair alone never could. It’s a big bit of kit, and you do need to transfer out of your chair to ride it.

We’ve put together a blog comparing the power add-ons Team Adaptdefy actually uses, from Gem’s Batec to my SmartDrive, FreeWheel and Bowhead.

Comment “Power”, and we’ll send it straight to you

What add-ons do you use? And what’s your one bit of advice for someone thinking about buying one? Drop it below, let’s help each other out

My business partner Tim Cox recently turned 40, and it made me realise something: we met 10 years ago! 🎉

A decade of building a partnership, testing ideas and not giving up, all to find a product that genuinely makes a difference. That product is LapStacker, and I use it every single day.

I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way. It’s been a long journey, and I couldn’t be happier that Tim and I teamed up to make it happen.

Carrying things on your lap from a wheelchair shouldn’t be a balancing act. That’s exactly what LapStacker was made for

Zip. Clip. Go.
