Girl moms forgetting about the hand-me-down plan once matching outfits became an option 😂

I’m not even going to pretend I’m casual about matching these girls. If I love an outfit and I know it comes in both their sizes, I’m getting two.

One thing I’ve learnt though, especially with the age gap, is not to only look for outfits that are actually sold as matching sister sets.

Sometimes I’ll find something for one of them that I really like and go looking for something that works for the other one same dress, same print, same colour, or something from the same collection.

I’ll check the baby section, kids section, Google the name because, once I’ve decided they’re matching, I’m finding that second outfit. Lol

And honestly, some of their nicest matching looks have come from doing exactly that.

It was actually one of the things I was excited about when I found out I was having another baby, so now look at me, fully committed

If you also take matching your girls this seriously, where are you shopping? by @laraoboh

You know that thing we say.. “I’ll do it when they’re a bit older.”

I’ve said it and I hear other mums say it all the time too. And sometimes, fair enough. There are seasons of motherhood where you simply don’t have the capacity for certain things.

But then I started thinking, how old exactly do they need to be? Because somehow “when they’re older” keeps moving. First it’s when they start school. Then when the younger one starts school. Then when they can do more for themselves. Meanwhile, years are actually passing.

And yes, they’re older. But so are we.( laughs in back pain 😂)

And no, I’m not saying everybody should now start rushing to do all the things because our children are growing. Some things genuinely have to wait.

I just think there’s a difference between choosing to wait because this season needs it and automatically putting everything that matters to you in the later pile because you’re a mum.

Maybe we don’t need to do everything now.
But maybe everything doesn’t have to wait either.

Abi I lie😂

When one child is already having full conversations and the other can’t even hold her head up yet, it can be hard to picture them playing together😂.

So if you’re wondering what age gap and could look like beyond the baby stage, here’s ours, two years later.

I have seen 5 years, 8 years and even more and it doesn’t look any different.

“Get everything ready the night before” sounds good until you’re exhausted at 9pm. Here’s how I fit the prep into things I’m already doing on the days I don’t have help around.

1. Packing tomorrow’s bag while I unpack today’s. As I’m taking out dirty daycare clothes, I replace them with clean ones. When I empty the lunch bag, I put tomorrow’s dry snacks back in. I’m already unpacking, so I finish that part there and then.

2. I sort out lunch while I’m making dinner. I’m already in the kitchen, so if there’s anything that can go in the lunch box immediately I do that while cooking. That saves me coming back later to start packing lunch when I thought I was done for the day.

3. A Monday to Sunday clothes organiser.
weekends are for outting a full outfit in each section, including socks and underwear. In the morning, everything they need to wear is together each morning.

4. I keep everything that needs the fridge in one spot. Their lunchboxes, yoghurt and filled bottles stay together. So in the morning, I pull it out at once.

5. A small basket of hair things in the washroom. The brush, comb and hair ties all go there. Getting a toddler to sit down is already one job. I don’t want to finally have her sitting there and then start looking for the brush

6. My school reminders come the evening before. If library day is Tuesday, the reminder comes on Monday evening. That gives me time to find the book and put it in the bag, instead of remembering when we should already be leaving.

We still have our mornings 😂 But there’s less for us to figure out while getting ready.

The screen is not the problem. What’s on it is. And sometimes you just need a few moments to get something done.

If your kids use a tablet, here’s a few options in case you’ve been looking and save for when you need it

If your child has a favourite app I’ve missed, let me know. I’m always happy to find something useful.

I almost learnt this the hard way during one of our family outing. This is the easiest and fastest way to teach your young kids your phone number for safety reasons.

How did you teach your kids your phone number?

These are the things helping me still feel like myself while raising my girls and a 9-5.

Yours might look different. You might not even like going out and that okay
Whatever it is, it deserves space too.

What’s your own version

Turns out this is how second kids are wired. And as cute as it is, it made us pause because if she’s copying her sister this closely, she’s copying everything her sister learned from us too.

So now we’re a bit more careful with our oldest. Not because she has to be perfect, she’s still a child. But because what we give her doesn’t stop with her.

Does your youngest copy everything too, or is it just mine?

1. I tell people I wanted to work from home so badly to be present for my girls, and that’s true. What I don’t say is that part of it was for me too. I wasn’t ready to give up the career I’d worked hard for.

2. I help people with their money for work and I still feel guilty spending on myself. Something will sit in my cart for weeks, then I’ll go buy the girls something instead.

3. My Canadian career started before we landed. I was Starting over on paper, but never in my head. I was in such a rush to move up the ladder and I had no idea what motherhood was about to do to that plan.

4. I haven’t seen any of my siblings since 2019. I watch their lives through video calls, and some days I miss the version of us that could just show up at each other’s door. Building a life here means I’m not there for theirs, and I don’t think I’ve fully made peace with that yet.

5.I tell people I don’t like cooking, What they don’t hear often is that I low-key binge-watch people who cook and make it look so effortless and with little one that needs to be fed, I really wish that was me.

6. On maternity leave, I was scared of disappearing into being only “mum.” So I studied and got my certification exams in the small windows between feeds and naps. It was not just discipline, a lot of it was also fear.

7. I was so nervous to start creating content online again. Scared of oversharing, scared I would never get the time with two kids, and feeling cringe the whole way through. But whenever I post, I feel like i made one step closer to reaching my ideal audience and that felt like a lottery so here I am doing it anyway.

I’m not trying to have it all figured out. I’m just learning to want things for myself, at my own pace, even when it’s messy.

If you’re a working mom and some of this sounds like you, follow along. You’re not the only one.
