ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Lara Weiler @larawlr

An open belt bag with an asthma inhaler. Clothes flung over a chair, a toilet brush beside a bathtub full of odds and ends. A handbag, rummaged through in a women’s bathroom in Düsseldorf. Lara Weiler draws what people carry around with them, and almost never shows a face. Her precise coloured-pencil drawings, and more recently her shaped canvases, are indirect portraits of the people around her. The longer you look, the more you start to recognise yourself and your own stuff.

Born in Luxembourg in 1999, Lara Weiler studied Fine Arts at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar in Saarbrücken. Earlier this month, she completed her Meisterschülerin, the German postgraduate master-student distinction, under Prof. Gabriele Langendorf. Congratulations, Lara!
She lives and works in Luxembourg and is represented by @valeriusgallery

We’re thrilled to have Lara as one of the five artists in UNBOTHERED?!, each translating the present moment into the classical media of painting and drawing.

UNBOTHERED?! – eine Gruppenausstellung über die Generation, zu der alle was zu sagen haben, in den Kommentarspalten, in Talkshows und am Stammtisch. Fragen und Thesen die nerven und wie sich selbst die Generation Z (vielleicht) gar nicht sieht. Die Galerie Greulich versteht sich als zeitgenössische Galerie. Wir interessieren uns für die Themen die im Hier und Jetzt passieren und genau deswegen haben wir für den Saisonstart im September fünf Künstlerinnen eingeladen, die diese Fragen selbst in die Hand nehmen – nonchalant, durchdacht und mit einem Hauch Internetästhetik. Mit Malerei, Video und Installation zeigt „UNBOTHERED?!“ eine Ausstellung die Gen Z selbst zu Wort, beziehungsweise zum Bild, kommen lässt.

Wir laden euch herzlich ein zur Eröffnung am Freitag den 04. September 2026, ab 18:00.

Lara Weiler is a Luxembourg-based artist whose intimate paintings of everyday objects and domestic interiors transform the familiar into something personal, playful, and distinctly contemporary. Rooted in close observation, her work captures the subtle traces of daily life, revealing the quiet beauty and emotional resonance within the ordinary. Weiler has been represented by Valerius Galerie since 2023 and was awarded the 2024 Prix Pierre Werner.

Everyday objects tell hidden stories. In Peekaboo, Lara Weiler explores the intimate lives of our possessions—from open bags spilling their contents to the familiar “clothes chair,” overloaded with garments and suspended between use and neglect. These domestic scenes, read as everyday sculptures, are at once ordinary and absurd. They become unintentional self-portraits, capturing moments of chaos, habit, and identity, and elevating the familiar through a subtle shift in perspective.
Balancing intimacy with detachment, Weiler transforms clutter into quiet reflections on what is overlooked and undervalued, inviting us to reconsider the objects, spaces, and routines that shape our lives.
 Lara Weiler studied Fine Art at Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar, Saarbrücken, completing her Master’s in 2024. She was awarded the Prix Pierre Werner (2024, Luxembourg), and her work has been acquired by the National Museum of Art and History (MNAHA) and the Ministry of Culture, Luxembourg.
