Some artists create because they have something to prove. Larkie creates because there are things inside her that deserve somewhere to live.

From recording vocals in her car to transforming grief, anxiety, love and self-doubt into music, Larkie’s story is ultimately about choosing creativity before fear gets the final say.

We spoke about the lifelong nature of grief, the heartbeat hidden inside “Grief Comes in Waves,” learning to become a better support system for yourself through “Enemy,” and why the ordinary moments of love inspired “Roommates.”

And through all of it, one piece of advice kept coming back:

“Just do it.”

Because sometimes you never become completely fearless. You simply decide that what you want to create matters more than the fear of being seen.

My first time publicly talking about the meaning behind GCIW and my second time ever performing it. Thank you Dax (@daxmillanmusic) for being a gracious host and Char (@hkcharmainec) for filming it :)

How do you turn 20 years of grief into a 4-minute song?

I answer this question and share the memories that inspired “Grief Comes In Waves” in my new Substack article. I’ve also included an unreleased piano version at the end (a thank you gift for following along my artist journey 🤍). Hannah and I did one of my dream photoshoots: golden hour on the ferry to Bainbridge. The lush waves, retro vinyl booths, and big windows set the mood we were going for! It’s also very on theme for my new song (Grief Comes In Waves 🌊) out on Friday. Thank you SO much @ofsunueva for doing this with me! Go show her some love 🤍 by @larkielullabies
