NEXT MONTH: Punch Needle Portraiture with Liv Aanrud @livaanrud 🍭

Join us for a three-session weekly punch needle embroidery class, designed to introduce students to both the technical foundations and creative possibilities of this versatile textile medium.

Participants will explore the historical roots and contemporary context of punch needle while developing hands-on skills in technique, texture, and composition. The course will also cover facial proportions and portrait design, guiding students in translating features into textile form. Through thoughtful experimentation and the incorporation of personal design elements, students will create a finished artwork that tells a meaningful visual story.

Join textile artist Emily Silver for a one day workshop exploring the art of collage through innovative needle-felting techniques. Participants will learn to create unique pre-felt batting and textured fabrics by layering and compacting a variety of fibers, trims and fabric remnants through the felting loom.

COMING UP: Making Magic: Besom Style Broom Making with Jada Patterson @color.andshape 🧚🧹

Brooms have been used for centuries to tend to the spaces we occupy. Only in the last few decades have they begun to be redefined as both useful and artful objects of ritual.

In this class we will first create a hand whisk broom to get comfortable with the broom making techniques then we will create a besom style broom, also known as a witches broom, that’ll beg to be shown off, possibly in your Halloween costume.

We will explore traditional ways of working while incorporating some elements of play. Be prepared to usemoderate hand and body strength in this class.

Jada Patterson is a multidisciplinary artist, craftsperson and educator born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Their work spans across sculpture, broom making, basketry and weaving. The intersections of identity, material culture and personal histories are the basis of Jada’s work, with a deep interest in Black traditions of hair and body adornment as well as objects used in ritual to tend to place and imbue power in the everyday.

Can you tell we had fun??? Precious moments from Shitty Still Life! With the Shitty Craft Club! @samreecetv 🌭✨🌸

This was 3 hours of pure, low-stakes bliss with Shitty Craft Club! In this workshop, we created wild, mixed-media still life “paintings” using materials pulled straight from the glorious depths of Sam’s chaotic hoard. We’re talking rhinestones! Felt! Cool little tubes? Beads! Pom poms! Junk drawer treasures! Who knows! Every crafter got a blank canvas, a loaded hot glue gun, and total freedom to recreate the custom still life setup in all its shitty, gorgeous glory.

Shitty Craft Club has and always will be a judgement free, safe space for friends and strangers to develop the completely normal hobby of gluing beads and rhinestones all over everything.

We’ll have another Shitty Craft Club on the books soon, keep an eye out!

In this course, artist Malavika Rao, invites students into the slow and thoughtful practice of quilting. Students will explore patchwork, appliqué, and surface design through a mix of guided demos and personal experimentation, culminating in a completed quilted piece.

Together, we will reflect on quilting’s deep histories of care, resistance, and community. Each participant will create a small quilted work through a process of experimentation and shared learning—moving at their own pace, in good company.

A look at some of the work made in Alicia Piller’s The Value of Things: Mixed Media Object workshop yesterday 🥽✨

In this workshop, students considered how value is assigned to objects, materials, and even living things.

Each student brought one discarded, obsolete, or found object and one meaningful object, then used wrapping, binding, layering, weaving, stitching, wiring, and encasing techniques to transform these objects into a single sculptural form.
